Description
CereCere is a member of the Amazoness Quartet, a group of antagonists who appear in the Sailor Moon SuperS anime as part of the Dead Moon Circus. Within the circus hierarchy, she is known as the Flower Magician and her specific performance skill is the trapeze. She is often described as the oldest and most mature member of the quartet, frequently taking the initiative and directing the actions of her fellow members JunJun, VesVes, and PallaPalla.
In terms of appearance, CereCere is designed with long light-pink hair which is styled into two long outward braids, with additional smaller braids tied into circles on either side of her head and a bun on top. Her outfit is light in color, consisting of a purple top with a pink outline and a light yellow skirt worn over leggings, accessorized with pink ballet slipper-like shoes. Two large light-yellow bows are present in her hair, and dark-pink cherry blossoms decorate her clothing. She has dark red eyes and a dark purple jewel set in the middle of her forehead.
CereCere has a distinct personality defined by arrogance and vanity. She is extremely haughty and has a deep appreciation for her own beauty, actively seeking out people who will acknowledge or enhance her perceived attractiveness. This vanity can make her stubborn; for instance, when a street artist painted a portrait of her that she felt was not flattering enough, she forced him to redo the work to her liking. Despite her self-centered nature, she is also shown to be feminine and sophisticated. Among the quartet, she appears to take her mission the most seriously, though like her sisters, she values the promise of eternal youth and childhood granted by Queen Nehelenia.
Initially, CereCere is motivated by loyalty to the Dead Moon Circus and her desire to remain young and beautiful forever. Her primary goal in the story is to serve Zirconia and Queen Nehelenia by locating the Golden Dream Mirror, which contains the legendary Golden Crystal, by extracting dream mirrors from human victims. She is not particularly enthusiastic about having to work, but her interest is piqued when she first sees the beautiful form of Pegasus. Her role as an antagonist places her in direct conflict with the Sailor Guardians, particularly Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon.
Her key relationships are primarily with the other members of the Amazoness Quartet. While they work together as a team, CereCere is not above using her abilities on them for her own benefit at least once, hypnotizing her sisters so she could pursue a target alone. She is loyal to the circus leaders, Zirconia and Queen Nehelenia, though this loyalty is ultimately broken as the story concludes.
CereCere undergoes a notable development by the end of the SuperS series. When the Amazoness Quartet are imprisoned and their powers drained by Zirconia, they realize the cost of their servitude. In a significant act of rebellion, CereCere and her sisters choose to smash their Amazon Stones, the source of their eternal childhood, thereby freeing themselves from Nehelenia's control and giving up their promise of eternal youth. Following this change of heart, the Quartet aids the Sailor Guardians in the final battle against Nehelenia, famously swapping the golden crystal with a pineapple to assist Sailor Moon. In the end, they decide to leave peacefully, indicating a shift from antagonists to sympathetic allies.
As a member of the Amazoness Quartet, CereCere possesses several notable abilities. Her primary tool is her yellow Amazon Stone, which she uses to perform various attacks, including Colliding Ball, Pelting Ball, and Opening Ball. These commands allow her to extract a person's dream mirror, fire projectiles at her targets, and even create small portals for transport. She is also capable of performing a specific attack called Seeds of Unhappiness. True to her title as the Flower Magician, CereCere's offensive powers are heavily plant-based. She can summon Lemures, which are monstrous servants that resemble plants, and can create and control flora, including dangerous specimens like man-eating plants. She also possesses the ability to hypnotize people, forcing them to fall asleep or obey her commands.
