Description
Kon Shinonome is a high school student from the modern world who becomes permanently stranded in the alternate historical realm of Edo. Two years before the main events of the story, he was attacked by supernatural entities known as the Nue and the Yakou, an encounter that not only cost him all sensation in his right arm but also trapped him within this strange world. In his original life, he carried a reputation as a delinquent, known for starting fights and involving himself in shady activities, a persona reflected in his rough appearance and demeanor.
Despite this tough and confrontational exterior, Kon is cool-headed, logical, and highly intelligent. He possesses a sharp, analytical mind that he uses to understand the rules, threats, and customs of the Edo world. Although his right arm is useless in combat, he becomes a competent swordsman and relies heavily on his wits and knowledge of history. Because he arrived two years before the protagonist, Tokidoki Rikugou, Kon takes on the role of a mentor, teaching Tokidoki about the era and its ayakashi spirits in order to help him survive.
Kon is classified as a Hakushi no Mono, or Blank Page, a title given to people from the modern world who hold special potential within the reality of Amatsuki. However, his destiny takes a different path from Tokidoki. Early in his stay, Kon was found by the forces of Heaven, and his page was written into the fabric of the world through Heaven's Net. This act effectively claimed his unique ability, leaving him without the special powers that Tokidoki later develops.
He forms a close bond with Tokidoki, acting as a guide and friend. He also travels and fights alongside the swordsman Kuchiha and the monk Shamon, becoming a key member of the group. The most significant turning point in his character arc comes when his memories are forcibly altered by Heaven. This manipulation erases his recollection of the modern world and his connection to Tokidoki, transforming him from a loyal mentor into a tragic figure whose core identity has been stolen.
