Description
Meiko Kajiwara is a character from the romantic comedy anime Ai Shite Knight. She is an admirer and dedicated fan of Satomi Okawa, who is the talented keyboardist for the emerging rock band Bee Hive. Portrayed as a young woman of adult age with black, shoulder-length hair, she is often seen with a ponytail, hairbow, and earrings.
Meiko's primary motivation is her deep romantic feelings for Satomi, which drive most of her actions throughout the story. To get closer to him and spend time in his company, she cleverly hires him to give her private keyboard lessons, paying him for his time, though Satomi remains largely oblivious to her true romantic intentions. Her role in the narrative is that of a persistent but ultimately unrequited love interest for Satomi, which creates a secondary romantic subplot alongside the main love story.
In her personal journey, Meiko also pursues her own interest in music by joining an amateur rock band. Through this endeavor, she eventually finds a new romantic partner who is also a musician. However, her lingering affection for Satomi does not completely vanish, suggesting that her emotional attachment to him remains a part of her character even as she moves forward with her life.
The character has notable differences between the original manga and the anime adaptation. In the manga, Meiko is portrayed as a high school student who was part of Bee Hive's fan club. She ultimately decides to give up on Satomi after realizing he is too preoccupied with the protagonist, Yakko, and begins a relationship with another musician who is also a fan of the band. In contrast, the anime presents her storyline somewhat differently, as she engages with Satomi through various events and circumstances. Her abilities are not combat-oriented but revolve around her social determination and her interest in music, particularly her efforts to learn the keyboard.
