Edo, last known survivor of Planet Zetton's species after their defeat by the original Ultraman during a failed Earth invasion, adopts the alias "Ai-De" upon joining the reformed Science Special Search Party (SSSP). He rises to lead the organization under the pretense of cooperation with Earth, leveraging Earth's agreement to join the Universal Alliance—later revealed as the Star Cluster Council, where he secretly holds the rank of Supreme Chairman. Naturally, Edo appears as a 2-meter-tall, 6-kilogram humanoid with squid-like features: a black, gooey head dominated by a single prominent red eye. He navigates human society undetected using a holographic mimicry device, typically projecting the image of a businessman resembling Dr. Iwamoto. Biologically requiring only two minutes of sleep per day, he resides within the SSSP's covert base, the Giant of Light Memorial. As SSSP head, Edo orchestrates key initiatives like developing Ultraman Suits—powered armor enabling humans to fight extraterrestrial threats. He personally recruits Shinjiro Hayata as Ultraman's successor, providing both the suit and a separate mimicry system to project Ultraman's form. His tactics involve calculated manipulation, including staging battles between Shinjiro and hired aliens like Jack or Red to accelerate the youth's power growth. He also authorizes lethal missions against hostile entities, such as ordering the extermination of Alien Adacic. Beneath his diplomatic surface, Edo pursues a long-term agenda to erode Earth's trust in Ultraman and force humanity's subservience to the Star Cluster Council. This culminates in betrayal during the third season, collaborating with Ambassador Mephisto to frame Ultraman as a threat. In the final confrontation, he dons a Zetton-themed armored suit utilizing visor-mounted lasers and deployable back mechanisms, mirroring Ultraman Suit technology but channeling Zettonian capabilities. Edo perishes in this battle, maintaining his belief that humanity's survival requires assimilation into the Council. His actions present contradictions: collaborating with the SSSP—the organization that caused his species' decline—and reflecting nostalgically at dioramas depicting Ultraman's victory over Zetton, underscoring a complex alignment of pragmatic diplomacy and species-driven vengeance.
