Description
Pierre Tempête de Neige is a central character in the anime Sugar Sugar Rune. He is a fourteen-year-old boy who appears at first as a fellow student at the middle school attended by the main protagonist. In the human world, he is the president of the student council and the captain of the fencing club, and he is also described as the captain of the tennis team. He has light, nearly white blonde hair and sharp ice blue eyes, and his good looks, intelligence, and natural charisma make him one of the most admired students at the school.
Beneath this polished surface, Pierre belongs to the magical world. He is a wizard and the prince of the Ogre clan, a group that is looked down upon in the magical world and exists in a hostile relationship with witches. As a child, he was taken by the ogres and forced to become their prince, a circumstance that left him unable to draw nourishment from ordinary human hearts. Because of this, he relies on collecting dark hearts, known as noir, which are born from negative emotions such as jealousy and hatred. Pierre resembles the evil king Glace, the ruler of the dark kingdom, and this resemblance becomes a source of mystery and suspicion throughout the story.
Personality-wise, Pierre appears calm, charming, and nearly irresistible to those around him, but his true nature is cold-hearted and far less innocent than he seems. He uses his intelligence and charisma to manipulate other people's emotions, deliberately creating situations that make them feel jealousy or envy so that he can harvest their noir hearts. He is followed by a fan club of beautiful but cruel and cold junior high school girls known as the Members, who keep other girls away from him and resent anyone who gets too close, especially the main protagonist, Chocolat.
His initial motivation is tied to his role as the Ogre Prince. He works against the witches competing in the magical world, and his actions are largely aimed at advancing the ogres' interests. This is most clearly shown in his treatment of Vanilla, Chocolat's friend and rival. He deceives Vanilla by convincing her that she was born an ogre, and with her consent he implants a black heart in her chest, transforming her into the Ogre Princess. This act has lasting consequences and becomes one of the major turning points of the story.
As the series progresses, Pierre's motivations begin to change. Despite his cold and manipulative demeanor, he develops genuine romantic feelings for Chocolat. His emotional growth is closely tied to his heart, which is a central element of the story's magic. After losing his heart in an attack, his heart ultimately turns white, symbolizing purification and his transformation from a cold, calculating figure into someone capable of true love. In the anime's conclusion, Chocolat gives her heart to Pierre and he gives his heart to her, allowing them to be together. In the manga, they eventually return to the human world together, and Pierre's heart is shown to be filled with love for her.
His key relationships are defined by this arc. With Chocolat, he moves from mysterious rival and source of doubt to genuine love interest, and their connection is the emotional core of his development. With Vanilla, his relationship is built on manipulation and deception, as he uses her to further the ogres' plans. With Houx, a boy who is jealous of Pierre's bond with Chocolat, he shares a hostile and combative dynamic, and the two come to blows at one point. His resemblance to King Glace also raises questions about a possible blood connection, and this uncertainty complicates his relationship with Chocolat before being resolved.
In terms of abilities, Pierre is a powerful wizard of the Ogre clan. He can extract, manipulate, and implant hearts, including noir hearts, and he is skilled at using psychological manipulation to provoke the negative emotions that produce them. He is also a capable fighter, as demonstrated when he engages Houx in combat, and his position as captain of the fencing club reflects his skill with a blade. Beyond these magical and physical abilities, his defining trait is his charismatic influence over others, which he uses both to maintain his popularity in the human world and to advance his goals in the magical one.
