TV-Series
Description
Catherine is an Amanto, an alien, recognizable by her cat ears and her straight, black bob haircut. She has brown eyes, tanned skin, and facial features that are often described as rough or unattractive, including a prominent nose and lips, a contrast to her slender and well-proportioned figure. She typically wears a green kimono. Her birthday is August 21st, and her age is estimated to be over thirty. She stands 165 centimeters tall and weighs 55 kilograms.

Catherine speaks with a distinctive, broken accent, which is a conscious character creation on her part, as she is capable of speaking fluently when she wishes. Her personality is often loud, impulsive, and abrasive, particularly towards the members of the Yorozuya, whom she frequently scolds and looks down on despite often shirking her own duties. She has a tendency to be selfish and is characterized as someone who is strong against the weak and weak against the strong. However, beneath this harsh exterior lies a deep-seated loyalty and gratitude, especially towards her employer, Otose, whom she respects and views as a mother figure.

In the past, Catherine was a notorious professional cat burglar known as Latchkey Catherine. She was a member of a feline Amanto thief gang called Cat's Punch. Her specialty was burglary and thievery, possessing incredible skills in infiltration and lock picking. Her body is extremely flexible, allowing her to navigate complex security systems like laser grids with ease. After arriving on Earth from her home planet to work and send money back to her family, she was hired by Otose at her snack house. However, she relapsed and began stealing from the bar and other shops in the Kabuki District, leading to her arrest and imprisonment.

Upon her release, Otose gave Catherine a second chance. Moved by this kindness, Catherine made a solemn promise never to steal again and was rehired at the snack house. This promise is the cornerstone of her redemption. She works at the bar, sometimes also handling the task of collecting rent from the Yorozuya, though this duty was later given to Tama.

While Catherine has rarely displayed any combat abilities, her thieving skills remain unparalleled. She usually keeps her promise to Otose, only breaking it once in a critical situation when the bar and Otose's life were threatened. In that instance, she used her lock-picking and infiltration talents to rescue a hostage, proving her abilities are intact and that she is willing to use them only to protect the person who saved her.

Catherine's most significant relationship is with Otose, which has developed into a strong, familial bond, with both considering each other as mother and daughter. Her relationship with the Yorozuya is more contentious, marked by constant arguing and scolding, but she holds a grudging respect for Gintoki and his team. She has a particular rivalry with Kagura.

Catherine has undergone some notable development throughout the story. In a significant episode, she fell in love. The power of this emotion triggered a dramatic transformation, changing her appearance into that of a strikingly beautiful woman, along with a softer voice and personality. Sadly, this romance ended in betrayal when the man turned out to be a con artist who stole her life savings. After a period of estrangement and despair, she was reconciled with Otose and returned to work at the bar.

In the final story arc following a two-year time skip, Catherine is shown to have aged dramatically, gaining white hair, many wrinkles, and even a beard in some comedic depictions, looking far older than Otose. Despite her difficult past and her often-gruff demeanor, Catherine is a member of the Snack Otose family, and her journey is a testament to her unwavering loyalty and the power of a second chance at an honest life.
