Yū Sugimoto is a Japanese voice actress born on January 29, 1975, in Suita, Osaka Prefecture. She began her career in 1996 and was affiliated with Ken Production until 2003, when she transferred to her current agency, the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society, also known as Haikyō.

Sugimoto decided to pursue voice acting during her final year of high school. Her inspiration came from watching the Japanese dub of the film Gone with the Wind, which made her realize that a deep voice could be used to portray elegant women, transforming what she had perceived as a childhood insecurity into a professional asset.

Throughout her extensive career, Sugimoto has become known for her distinctive, low-toned voice and her ability to perform in the Osaka dialect. She is frequently cast in energetic and what are often described as hot-blooded roles. In her work, she has voiced a wide range of characters, from young boys to mature women.

Sugimoto is recognized for several long-running and iconic anime roles. She voices Catherine in the long-running series Gintama and its subsequent films, including Gintama: The Final. In The Prince of Tennis franchise, she is the voice of the energetic Kintarō Tōyama, a role she has reprised across numerous series and OVAs. She has also voiced Yumi Miyamoto in the long-running detective series Case Closed. Her other notable anime roles include Elvy Hadhiyat in RahXephon, Akemi in She, The Ultimate Weapon, Mana Fujisaki in Onegai My Melody, and both Maido-kun and Neteru-kun in the Hamtaro series. More recent work includes the role of Kayira in the series OBSOLETE, Kaoru Ooba in Ace Attorney, Shiji Bau in Sentenced to Be a Hero, and Rika Saotome in KochiKame.

Beyond anime, Sugimoto has a significant presence in video game voice acting. She is the Japanese voice of Ingrid Hunnigan in the Resident Evil series, a role she has played in Resident Evil 6, the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4, and the film Resident Evil: Death Island. Her other game credits include Moenbryda in Final Fantasy XIV and Stella in Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY!.

Sugimoto is also active in dubbing foreign films and television series. She is frequently chosen as the Japanese dub voice for actresses Michelle Rodriguez and Lupita Nyong'o. Notable dubbing roles include Michelle Rodriguez's characters in Lost as Ana Lucia Cortez and in Avatar as Trudy Chacon, as well as Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny in the James Bond films Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die. She also voices Maz Kanata in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
