OVA
Description
Oboro Shintō originates as a being created from the tail of the previous black dragon god of Dragon Grace Lake, technically making her that deity's offspring. She was brought into existence under the directive of the previous dragon god's wife, Gozen, specifically to serve as a protector and loyal servant to Ryuuga Genshiro, the current head of the Ryuuga clan and her half-brother. Her primary mission centers on ensuring the Ryuuga clan's strength and continuity by any means necessary.
Physically, Oboro possesses an androgynous appearance often mistaken for male, characterized by short white hair, purple eyes, and an eyepatch covering her left eye. She typically wears traditional attire like a kimono paired with a haori. Standing at 151 cm tall and weighing 48.5 kg, her stature belies her combat capabilities.
Initially, Oboro exhibits a stoic, aloof, and emotionally reserved demeanor, speaking in a monotone voice. She demonstrates startling frankness when pursuing her goals, particularly those tied to the Ryuuga clan. Her lack of worldly experience results in naivety regarding social norms like modesty, leading her to employ blunt and unconventional methods—including frequent nudity—to seduce Kogarashi Fuyuzora, whom she identifies as a genetically suitable partner for producing powerful offspring. This objective stems solely from her unwavering loyalty to the clan, not personal desire.
Oboro's character undergoes significant development after encountering Kogarashi. Starting as an antagonist, she kidnaps Yuuna Yunohana to force a marriage with Genshiro and defeats Sagiri Ameno in combat. Kogarashi's defeat of Genshiro shifts her focus: she relocates to Yuragi Inn to pursue Kogarashi as a mate. Her interactions with Kogarashi and the Yuragi residents foster genuine emotional growth. She transitions from viewing Kogarashi as a genetic asset to developing authentic romantic feelings, culminating in a quiet confession of love. While her loyalty to the Ryuuga clan remains, she begins prioritizing Kogarashi's safety, defying Genshiro during a rematch to protect him and shedding tears at the thought of leaving Yuragi Inn.
Her abilities derive from her divine origins. As a "God Blade," she can transform her limbs into weapons and create portals for instantaneous travel between the Ryuuga Palace and the human world. Her most notable trait is "God Speed," enabling near-instantaneous movement that allows her to evade attacks and close distances effortlessly, crucial in combat and her persistent attempts to physically engage Kogarashi.
Relationships form a core aspect of her narrative. She shares a familial yet hierarchical bond with Genshiro, serving him loyally while chastising his eccentric behavior. Her dynamic with Kogarashi evolves from adversarial to deeply personal, marked by persistent seduction efforts and eventual emotional dependence. Among the Yuragi Inn residents, she builds mutual respect: Yuuna transitions from kidnapping victim to someone Oboro defends against threats like Makyouin Ouga; Sagiri evolves from combat rival to training partner and confidante. Oboro seeks romantic advice from Chisaki Miyazaki, whom she addresses as "Master," and engages in fierce rivalry with Karura Hiougi over Kogarashi's affections.
Oboro appears in the video games *Yuragi-sō no Yūna-san: Yukemuri Meikyū* (2018) and *Yuragi-sō no Yūna-san: Dororon Onsen Daikikō* (2019). Merchandise such as acrylic key rings depicting her likeness also exists.
