Description
Genji Kimata, also referred to as Motoharu Kimata, is the leader of the Salvation Alliance in the city of Lux. At 37 years old, he commands a faction whose central ideology is a total rejection of texhnolyzation, the process of replacing natural limbs with biomechanical prosthetics. The Alliance believes that the human body is sacred and that texhnolyzation corrupts both the flesh and the spirit, which makes them a significant political and philosophical force in Lux's underground society.
Kimata is defined by the profound contradiction between his public doctrine and his private reality. While he preaches the absolute strength and purity of the natural human form, he secretly possesses a texhnolyzed left arm. This hypocrisy weighs heavily on him and shapes his actions throughout the story. His primary motivation is not merely political power but a desperate need for atonement and validation. He seeks to prove that his organization's ideals—and by extension, his own sacrifices—hold meaning. This drive becomes a form of salvation for his own perceived spiritual decay, pushing him to lead his followers in increasingly desperate and fatalistic confrontations against the city's ruling powers and their texhnolyzed enforcers, the Shapes.
In the story, Kimata serves as a key representative of the human opposition to the forced evolution represented by texhnolyzation. His role becomes most prominent during the escalating conflict between the Salvation Alliance and the Organo, a dominant crime syndicate that employs texhnolyzed soldiers. Kimata directly confronts figures like Keigo Oonishi, a high-ranking member of the Organo, rejecting pragmatic advice to retreat in favor of a suicidal charge meant to serve as a testament to his beliefs. His relationships are largely defined by his position as a charismatic leader. He commands fierce loyalty from his followers, who are willing to die for his cause even after learning of his secret texhnolyzation. This bond is his most significant relationship, as he is ultimately isolated from the other major power players due to his faction's anti-technology stance.
Kimata undergoes a significant development in his final stand. Realizing his forces are outmatched, he chooses to publicly confess his hypocrisy by revealing his rotting flesh and texhnolyzed arm to his remaining men. This confession, intended to discourage them from dying for a hypocrite, instead solidifies their resolve. In this moment, his personal quest for redemption merges with his role as a leader, transforming his death into a deliberate, symbolic act. He is killed after being swarmed by Shapes, but not before fighting ferociously, tearing apart several enemies with his bare hands.
In terms of abilities, Kimata is a formidable fighter, relying on his natural strength and resolve. Despite having a texhnolyzed limb, he does not primarily rely on it as advanced technology; instead, it is a source of shame. His notable abilities are his charisma, which inspires suicidal loyalty, and his raw physical power in close-quarters combat, as demonstrated when he single-handedly destroys multiple enemy units before his death.
