Description
Astharoshe Asran is a character from the anime and novel series Trinity Blood. She is a noble of the New Human Empire, a race of long-lived beings known as Methuselah who are often referred to by the slur "vampires." Her position is the Inspector General, a role that serves the Empress directly by carrying out secret missions, monitoring noble corruption, and eliminating threats to the empire. Over the course of the story, her title evolves from the Duchess of Odessa to the Marquise of Kiev.

Astharoshe is a tall, striking woman with long silver-white hair, a few strands of which retain a natural red color. Her hair was originally fully red, but the trauma from the loss of a close friend caused it to bleach to its current pale shade. Her usual attire within the empire consists of a short blue dress with gold or silver embroidery, paired with high white boots, often bearing the star-moon insignia of her nation. She exudes an air of aristocratic pride and is known for her direct, no-nonsense attitude.

Her personality is hot-headed, strong-willed, and easily irritated, which often intimidates those around her. Despite this impulsive and blunt exterior, she possesses a caring and warm interior, though she struggles to express it properly. Her behavior is a classic example of a tsundere archetype, as she has a deep affection for her partner, Abel Nightroad, but often expresses it through grabbing him by the collar or arguing with him.

At the beginning of her introduction, Astharoshe holds a very low opinion of short-lived humans, whom the Methuselah call Terrans. Her disdain is largely formed by imperial propaganda and a lack of genuine exposure to the outside world. Her primary motivation is initially driven by a desire for revenge. She is hunting a criminal named Viscount Endre Kourza, a renegade Methuselah noble who massacred civilians and was responsible for the death of her best friend, Countess Len Yanosz. The grief and guilt from this event, where her friend was killed while Astharoshe was forced to comply with the killer's demands, is the catalyst for her personal vendetta and her hair turning white.

Her role in the story begins when she is dispatched to the Vatican Papal States on a secret mission to capture Endre Kourza. To navigate the unfamiliar human world, she is partnered with Abel Nightroad, an agent of the Vatican's special operations division, AX. Initially, she finds him unreliable and disdains working with a Terran. However, their first confrontation with Endre ends in disaster; Astharoshe, blinded by rage, engages in a reckless street battle that results in significant civilian casualties and Abel being seriously injured while protecting her. This event forces her to confront her own immaturity and the weight of her actions.

This failure becomes a turning point for her development. She sincerely repents for the harm she caused and begins to see Abel not as a servant or an inferior, but as a true partner. The Methuselah word for this bond is "tovarish," a term for a comrade worthy of one's trust and life. Through her collaboration with Abel, she learns that Terrans and Methuselah are not so different, and her perspective changes entirely. She becomes a proponent of coexistence, dedicating herself to independent research on the outside world and eventually becoming one of the empire's foremost experts on Terran society and politics.

Later in the narrative, her loyalty and growth are put to the test when Abel and his companions arrive in the empire's capital. Following secret orders from the Empress to protect them, Astharoshe shelters the group in her mansion and aids them in clearing their names after they are framed for murder. She fights alongside Abel against a rebellious faction within the empire, proving her skills and unwavering loyalty to the throne. Her key relationships are defined by this bond with Abel Nightroad, whom she comes to hold in the highest regard, and her deep-seated loyalty to Empress Seth.

Astharoshe wields a formidable weapon known as the Spear of Gae Bolg. It is a relic of lost technology, gifted by the Empress, which uses ionized xenon gas to generate a high-density, high-temperature plasma blade capable of cutting through virtually any substance. This weapon is a family heirloom, and her family symbol is a maiden with a spear.
