Description
Dakki, also known as So Dakki, is a central figure in the story, serving as a powerful and complex antagonist. She is an ancient fox spirit, or youkai, whose chronological age is approximately five thousand years. Her outward appearance is that of a strikingly beautiful young woman, characterized by long orange or pink hair, red or blue eyes depending on the adaptation, and a distinct marking on her forehead. This alluring form is not her original body, but the result of her possessing the body of a young woman named So Dakki, who was originally brought to the imperial palace to become one of the emperor's many wives.

The true nature of Dakki is that of a cunning, ruthless, and profoundly intelligent being. Her personality is marked by a deep enjoyment of chaos and the suffering of others, and she displays a creative genius for psychological and physical torment. Despite this cruelty, she is a masterful actress and manipulator, capable of hiding her true emotions and presenting a facade of innocence and charm to achieve her goals. She possesses an excellent understanding of human psychology, which she uses to predict and manipulate the actions of those around her. While she is overwhelmingly selfish and power-hungry, her character has layers of complexity beneath a seemingly straightforward villainous exterior.

Dakki's primary motivation evolves over the course of the story. On the surface, she appears driven by a desire for luxury, power, and the enjoyment of cruelty for its own sake, having spent centuries seducing and corrupting leaders to live in opulence. However, her true, secret ambition runs much deeper. After learning of ancient beings who fused their spirits with the planet, she became deeply affected and set her sights on transcending her existence as a possessing spirit. Her ultimate goal was to obtain the body of the ancient being Jyoka to merge her own spirit with the Earth, becoming a guiding mother spirit or goddess-like entity for the entire world.

In the narrative, Dakki is the main antagonist who has bewitched Emperor Chuu Ou of the Yin Dynasty, turning him into a puppet ruler. She effectively rules from behind the throne, using her position to oppress the populace, eliminate political enemies through elaborate and cruel means, and tear the kingdom apart from within. Her role puts her in direct opposition to Taikoubou, the protagonist sent by the immortals to stop her and carry out the Houshin Project. She is not merely a force of destruction, but also an agent for the hidden alien entity Jyoka, whom she serves for a time as part of her larger scheme.

Her key relationships are defined by manipulation and, in rare cases, genuine, if twisted, affection. She constantly manipulates Emperor Chuu Ou using her magical Veil of Temptation, though in some adaptations, there is a hint of fondness for him as he nears death. She shares a long-standing rivalry with the powerful warrior Bunchuu, who had driven her from a previous dynasty and immediately recognizes her true nature upon her return. She shows her only real sympathy and loyalty to her two sisters, Ou Kijin and Ko Kibi, and to her adopted son, Ou Eki or Ou Tenkun. Her most significant intellectual rival is Taikoubou, the only one capable of matching wits with her, and she even attempts to use her charms on him without success.

Throughout the story, Dakki is not a static villain. She begins as what appears to be a purely evil and selfish empress, but her development reveals a far grander and more nuanced ambition. Her secret plan to double-cross Jyoka and absorb her power recontextualizes many of her previous actions. In a final, unexpected turn, her character arc concludes with a form of ascension rather than simple defeat. She sacrifices her physical form to merge with the Earth's power, becoming one with the world. In this state, her final act is to protect the fragmented soul of Taikoubou, her former enemy, from Jyoka's final attack, enabling him to live on.

Dakki possesses a wide array of notable abilities stemming from her nature as an ancient demon fox. Her most important and frequently used tool is a paopei, or spiritual weapon, known as the Veil of Temptation. This item emits a powerful scent that can control the minds of men, affecting them with an irresistible attraction and making them highly suggestible; only individuals with an exceptionally strong will can resist its effects. She is highly skilled in magic, capable of feats such as floating, teleportation, body possession, and enhancing or corrupting the supernatural powers of others. In combat, she wields a set of fans that can generate powerful wind blades to cut her enemies, and she carries a long cloth or sheet called a hagoromo that provides her with near-invincible defense. Her vast intelligence, strategic cunning, and her ability to play a long-con are perhaps her most dangerous assets, allowing her to orchestrate complex plans spanning centuries.
