Description
Marin is a Silver Saint of the Eagle constellation, also known as the Aquila Silver Saint, and serves as the teacher of Pegasus Seiya. She is one of the few female Saints in the Sanctuary, and like all female Saints, she is required to conceal her face behind a mask to renounce her femininity. Marin was born on March 18 in Japan and stands 1.67 meters tall, weighing 51 kilograms. Her training took place at the Sanctuary in Greece.
Marin’s background is marked by a search for her younger brother, who disappeared when they were children. This personal quest led her to become a Saint, and her brother later reappears as Tohma, a Celestial Warrior serving Artemis in the Heaven Chapter Overture film. Her Japanese origins, like those of her pupil Seiya, made her a target of discrimination within the Sanctuary, particularly from the Silver Saint Shaina of Ophiuchus.
Marin is rational, perceptive, and highly adaptable in combat. She possesses a sharp observation ability and can quickly assess and adjust to any situation. Though she acts logically, she consistently supports Seiya and his friends when they need help. Her motivations revolve around protecting her pupil and uncovering the truth. She once sneaked onto Star Hill and discovered the identity of the false Grand Master, a secret that put her at odds with the corrupted leadership.
Her role in the story is primarily that of a mentor. She trained Seiya for six years, pushing him through harsh, Spartan-like conditioning to awaken his Cosmo and earn his Bronze Cloth. Despite being ordered to eliminate the Bronze Saints, Marin faked Seiya’s death during his encounter with Misty of Lizard, allowing him to escape. This act of defiance led to her exile from the Sanctuary. She later reappears at key moments to aid Seiya: she defeated Asterion of Hounds at Silver Beach, held off Jaki during the Sanctuary invasion, and helped Seiya cross Aphrodite’s rose path by giving him her mask to block the poisonous scent, without revealing her face. In the Asgard arc, she was defeated by Alberich of Megrez. During the Hades arc, she protected Seiya’s sister Seika alongside other Bronze Saints while Seiya fought in the Underworld. A long-standing theory that she might be Seiya’s sister was disproven when the real Seika appeared at the end of the Hades battle.
Marin shares a mutual romantic attraction with Leo Aiolia, a Gold Saint. However, due to their different ranks and their oath to serve Athena, they are unable to pursue a relationship.
As a Silver Saint, Marin possesses advanced mastery of the Cosmo, granting her superhuman physical strength, speed, and endurance. Her signature techniques include the Ryusei Ken (Meteor Fist), a rapid series of punches she taught to Seiya, which he adapted into his Pegasus Ryusei Ken. Her most powerful attack is the Eagle Toe Flash, also called Lampejo da Águia, where she leaps high and strikes with a devastating kick that can disorient or kill an opponent. She also uses a technique called Ku-en, or Air Fist. Her fighting style emphasizes speed, precision, and adaptability, allowing her to perform well even against stronger opponents.
