Description
Cheza, also known as the Flower Maiden, is a central figure created through alchemy from a Lunar Flower by the noble Lord Darcia I. Her existence is intrinsically tied to the legend of Paradise, as she is the key that wolves must follow to find it. She was kept in a state of suspended animation in a scientific research lab, where she was studied by a scientist named Cher Degré. Cheza is awakened from this dormant state by the scent of wolf blood, specifically from a brief fight between the wolves Kiba and Tsume.
In terms of personality, Cheza is consistently portrayed as a polite, soft-spoken, and remarkably naive individual. She is a gentle soul who prefers peace and never engages in physical conflict. One of her most distinctive speech patterns is referring to herself as "This One" rather than using personal pronouns like "I" or "me". Despite her passive nature, she possesses a deep well of inner strength and is entirely willing to sacrifice her own safety and well-being to protect the wolves she is bonded with.
Cheza's primary motivation is to guide the wolves to Paradise, a destiny that seems to be woven into her very being. She shares a profound and special bond with all wolves, but her connection to the lead wolf, Kiba, is particularly powerful and almost fated. The wolves, in turn, are instinctively driven to protect her. Her role in the story is largely that of a catalyst and a goal; various factions, including the Nobles Lord Darcia III and Lady Jaguara, repeatedly kidnap her in attempts to use her unique powers for their own ends, such as saving a loved one or forcibly opening a gateway to Paradise. Through these events, she travels with the wolf pack, and her presence deepens their journey from a simple search into a destined pilgrimage.
Her key relationships are almost exclusively defined by this bond. Her most significant relationship is with Kiba, for whom she seems to exist as a guiding light and destined partner. She becomes extremely saddened and cries when any wolf is injured, showing her deep empathy for them. While her loyalty is to the wolves, she shows a degree of trust and cooperation with certain humans, like the scientist Cher, who cared for her.
Throughout the narrative, Cheza undergoes a subtle but important development. She starts as a mysterious, almost object-like entity that is awakened and then stolen. As she travels with the wolves, she becomes more proactive in her own destiny, expressing her will to reach Paradise and using her abilities to protect her companions. A poignant moment in her journey occurs when she returns to the place of her creation, only to find it empty and in ruins, reinforcing her unique and lonely existence, though she later encounters another being like herself, an old Lunar Flower. Her development culminates in the final events, where her physical form ultimately perishes, but she disintegrates into seeds that bloom into flowers, with a promise of being reborn, suggesting a cyclical, hopeful end to her tragic journey.
Cheza possesses several notable abilities that reflect her nature as a living flower. She requires sunlight, water, and moonlight to sustain herself, and she can begin to wither without them. She has demonstrated the power to heal wolves' wounds and can use her song to put other living beings to sleep. Her tears have been shown to bring dead plants back to life. Cheza also has a form of limited telepathy, sharing a unique mental link specifically with Kiba. In addition, it is revealed that she is blind, navigating the world through other senses and her connection to the wolves.
