Description
Lady Jaguara is a main antagonist in the anime Wolf's Rain. She is the leader of the mysterious Lost City and is one of the three feuding Noble Families, holding the rank of a noble. She is the older twin sister of Lady Hamona. Jaguara fell deeply in love with Lord Darcia the Third, but Darcia instead loved Hamona, which caused Jaguara to develop a bitter jealousy toward her sister. This unrequited love became an obsession that drove many of her actions.
Jaguara is characterized by her vengeful, possessive, and ruthless nature. She wears a golden, white, and purple mask with long purple hair, and beneath it she has light greenish-blonde hair and violet eyes. She dresses in gold and black armor. Her appearance reflects her noble status and her cold, calculating personality. She is ambitious and willing to eliminate anyone who stands in her way, including her own sister.
Her primary motivation is to win Darcia's love by creating a man-made Paradise that would please him. To accomplish this, she sets up an ancient spell originally used by Lord Darcia the First. She abducts Cheza, the Flower Maiden, from Darcia's Keep in order to complete the spell. During this process, she orders the attack that destroys Hamona's life support, ensuring her sister's death. Jaguara also consolidates power after overthrowing the other nobles, gathering what she considers ideal people into her utopian city while sending soldiers to hunt down wolves, who she sees as threats to her plan.
In the story, Jaguara acts as a major obstacle for the wolf pack, particularly Kiba, as they seek to rescue Cheza and reach the genuine Paradise. She captures Cheza and attempts to use Kiba's blood to force the artificial Paradise to open. Her role culminates in a confrontation with Darcia and the wolves. During the final battle, Darcia, who has been poisoned by Jaguara's dagger, ultimately kills her by stabbing her through the heart. With her death, everything she built begins to fall apart.
Key relationships include her obsessive fixation on Darcia, her intense rivalry with her sister Hamona, and her adversarial stance toward the wolves. She also has a past connection with Hige, who once worked for her. She shows no loyalty beyond her own desires and treats allies as disposable.
Jaguara is a skilled swordfighter and uses a poisoned dagger in combat. She commands a large army and utilizes alchemical knowledge to construct an artificial Paradise. Her cunning and determination make her a formidable antagonist, though her ultimate downfall stems from her inability to accept Darcia's rejection.
