Description
Marco is an agent of Section 2 within the Social Welfare Agency and serves as the handler for Angelica, the first child cyborg assassin created by the organization. Before joining the Agency, he was a member of the Italian police’s anti‑terrorism unit, NOCS (Nucleo Operativo Centrale di Sicurezza). He was forced to retire from active duty after sustaining an injury to his left eye from an explosive device, which permanently reduced his vision. His friend, Dr. Bianchi, recommended him for the position of Angelica’s handler.

When Marco first took care of Angelica, he was kind and devoted. To help her adjust to her surgeries and new life, he invented an impromptu fairy tale called The Prince of the Land of Pasta, about a prince who ate only pasta. He spent a great deal of time developing the story. That story fascinated his then‑girlfriend, Patricia, who later wrote and published it as a children’s book; Marco purchased a copy and would read it to Angelica.

Over time, Marco witnessed both Section 2’s growing effectiveness as a combat unit and Angelica’s remarkable potential as an assassin. However, Angelica also became the first girl to suffer the severe side effects of the conditioning process, particularly long‑term memory loss. As her memories faded and her personality changed, Marco grew disgusted with the repeated setbacks. He felt that any further effort was in vain and adopted an impersonal, critical attitude toward her training, treating her more as a tool than a person. His relationship with Patricia also ended, partly due to the strain of his work.

Later, after Angelica suffered a near‑death experience, Marco felt deep regret over how he had treated her. In her final moments, Angelica, no longer recognizing him, asked why he was crying and recalled fragments of the Pasta story. This moment allowed Marco to reconnect with the innocent child he had once known. Following her death, he buried her and noted that he might one day seek another girl to look after, though he had no immediate plans.

Marco’s primary role is as a handler and field supervisor, responsible for training, welfare, and operational coordination with his assigned cyborg. His background in anti‑terrorism gives him tactical knowledge and practical combat skills, though they are complemented by the Agency’s protocols. His motivations shift from genuine care to disillusionment and finally to a resigned sense of duty tinged with remorse. His key development lies in his arc from an affectionate caretaker to a cold trainer and, ultimately, to a grieving man who rediscovers his lost compassion at the very end.
