Jim Foronda

Description
Jim Foronda is an American voice actor based in Texas who has built a extensive career in anime dubbing and video games. Born James Edward Foronda on July 3, 1973, in Tennessee, his path to voice acting began in an unconventional manner. In 2001, while working as a copywriter for Hasbro Toys, a budget miscalculation on a commercial for G.I. Joe led to him being cast in multiple roles for the ad, including Cobra Commander. This experience, followed by a year of voicing iconic toy characters like Optimus Prime and Mr. Potato Head in commercials, inspired him to pursue voice acting more seriously alongside his writing career.

He began working regularly with Funimation (now Crunchyroll), taking on various supporting roles in numerous series. Foronda balanced his advertising job and voice work until 2013, when a change in Hasbro's advertising agency led to his layoff, prompting him to transition to full-time voice acting.

Foronda's anime filmography is extensive and includes a wide array of characters. He is known for his role as Sergeant Denny Brosh in both adaptations of Fullmetal Alchemist. In the series My Hero Academia, he provides the voice for the villain Muscular. He voices the sentient floating sphere Luxion in Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs and the adviser HEUSC in The Millionaire Detective - Balance: UNLIMITED. His other prominent anime roles include Geld/Orc Disaster in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Poncho Panacotta in How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom, Kumasa in If My Favorite Pop Idol Made it to the Budokan, I Would Die, Shisandan/Bui in Banished From The Heroes' Party, and Frankenzombie in Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle. He also plays Isanari Uesugi, the father of the main characters, in The Quintessential Quintuplets, Mato/King Toma in Fairy Tail, Vander Decken IX in One Piece, and Lai Hui in Kingdom. Earlier in his career, he voiced Marco Togni in Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino.

Beyond anime, Foronda has an equally prolific career in video game voice acting. He has voiced over twenty different characters across the Borderlands franchise and, beginning with Borderlands 3, took on the iconic role of the robot Claptrap. His other game credits include more than ten characters in SMITE, such as Rambo and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Shredder, as well as roles in Battleborn and Tom Banner in Killing Floor 2.

Foronda has been a guest at numerous anime conventions across the United States, including events like Anime Tyler, Youmacon, and Nan Desu Kan. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child, he wears an insulin pump, a detail he humorously incorporates into his self-description as a "cyborg." In his personal time, he enjoys photography, video and tabletop games, traveling to Japan, and building with LEGOs.
