Description
Miu is a key character in the anime DearS, representing the alien race known as the DearS. Her full formal name is Thanast Useim Ruki Miu Sia Nostal Ren Naguregyug, though she goes by Miu. She is sent to Earth as an official exchange student assigned to Koharu High School, where she is meant to be the sole DearS representative. However, upon arrival, she discovers that another DearS named Ren has already been accepted into the school due to an enrollment mix-up. This situation initially makes Miu view Ren as an imposter and establishes a rivalry between them.
Miu is highly intelligent and knowledgeable about human society, often taking on the role of a teacher to Ren, instructing her in Japanese language, customs, and proper DearS behavior. Despite her sometimes proud and conceited demeanor, she is fundamentally kind, lively, and helpful. She lives with an elderly couple who treat her with great warmth, and she reciprocates their affection. Over time, her feelings toward Ren and the human protagonist Takeya evolve. While she initially disapproves of Ren's attachment to Takeya, she eventually falls in love with Takeya herself. She initially misinterprets these emotions as the so-called Gift, a DearS instinct, but later recognizes them as genuine romantic love.
Miu has a tragic backstory that shapes her character. When she was younger, her former master, who also served as her breeder, was brutally murdered. Despite her best efforts, she was unable to save him, leaving her with deep emotional scars. This experience contributes to her empathy and her desire to protect those she cares about. Throughout the story, Miu acts as a rival and foil to Ren, but also as a supportive figure. When Ren temporarily leaves Takeya, Miu provides comfort and assistance to him, demonstrating her loyalty and compassion.
In terms of abilities, Miu possesses the enhanced physical capabilities common among DearS, including superhuman strength and reflexes. She is also respected by other DearS and humans alike for her intellect and composed nature. Her role in the narrative is that of a secondary lead who challenges both Ren and Takeya, ultimately helping them grow while experiencing her own emotional development.
