Description
Khi is a male DearS and an exchange student who attends the same school as Natsuki Ikuhara, the younger sister of the protagonist Takeya. Among his own people, Khi is considered somewhat of a black sheep or an outsider, largely due to his reserved and soft-spoken nature. This very personality trait, however, makes him an ideal fit for the role of a diplomatic negotiator for the DearS colony. Because he is calm and level-headed, he is frequently dispatched on assignments to resolve delicate situations and misunderstandings between DearS and humans.

Physically, Khi appears as a slim teenager with pale skin. He has short, spiky green hair with a characteristic ahoge, and his eyes are also green. He bears a bindi mark on his forehead and is typically seen wearing a standard school uniform, complete with a collar and ribbon tie. His refined and polite demeanor often gives him an air of quiet dignity, setting him apart from the more impulsive members of his species.

Within the story, Khi serves as a key figure in maintaining order and executing the will of the DearS collective. He is entrusted with sensitive tasks such as bearing witness to the formal duel between the DearS girls Ren and Miu, and retrieving the forgetful and childlike Nia from Takeya's apartment. His role often puts him in opposition to the main characters, as he is responsible for enforcing the rules that govern DearS society, including the potential recall of Ren. He is the one who explains the technical details of a recall to Takeya and makes arrangements to pick Ren up when the order is given.

Despite his official capacity, Khi is not cold or unfeeling. His passive and gentle nature makes him vulnerable in his homestay situation, where he is shown to be abused by the son of the human family he lives with. This subplot becomes a significant part of his personal development. After witnessing this, Takeya offers Khi words of encouragement and a clear, simple definition of what it means to be a friend. This newfound understanding gives Khi the confidence to stand up for himself and put an end to the abuse he was suffering.

His relationships are defined by his duty and his growing understanding of human connections. He is frequently seen interacting with Miu, another DearS, as he collects information from her regarding Ren. His most pivotal relationship, however, is with Takeya. While Khi begins as a representative of the opposing force trying to reclaim Ren, Takeya's kindness and straightforwardness teach him about personal strength and loyalty, transforming their dynamic from one of mere negotiation to genuine friendship.

Among the group of DearS who become closely associated with Takeya, Khi is consistently portrayed as the most rational and perceptive. He is able to understand and accept complex human emotions, including Takeya's conflicted feelings about his bond with Ren, without judgment. In the end, when a large faction of DearS, led by Io, decides to leave Earth and travel into space, Khi makes the independent choice to remain behind on Earth, signaling his integration into and preference for the life he has built there.
