Description
Goro Suzuki is a member of the Tokyo Gantz Team who, before his death and subsequent resurrection, was a well-known public figure working as a politician. He is depicted as an elderly man of average height and build, with pale skin and short white hair that is consistently slicked back. Upon his arrival in the Tokyo room, he appears dressed only in a hospital gown and without any shoes, a direct result of his physical condition at the time of his death, as he had been hospitalized while battling cancer. Prior to his hospitalization, he is noted to have worn expensive suits, underscoring his former professional status.

In terms of personality, Suzuki is presented as a calm, patient, and composed individual, notably being one of the only smiling faces in the room. He exhibits a kind and friendly demeanor, particularly when he first greets newcomers Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, earnestly explaining to them that they have died and that the room they are in is heaven. His disposition suggests a belief in an afterlife or a higher power, as he seems unwavering in his conviction that his death has led him to a peaceful hereafter. He also displays a profound sense of gratitude, demonstrated by his willingness to embrace pain as tangible proof of life and health when he steps on a piece of glass during the mission.

Goro Suzuki's primary motivation is remarkably simple compared to others in his situation: he desires to return to his family. When the group is given the opportunity to hunt aliens for a substantial monetary reward, he is one of the few who shows no interest in the money, opting instead to simply go home. He is driven by thoughts of his waiting family, including his wife, Sachie Suzuki, and his son, Shinya Suzuki, and he expresses joy at the prospect of surprising them by returning alive. This motivation is slightly altered in the anime adaptation, where he instead has a flashback of being bribed by a fellow cabinet member and resolves to start his life over again once he returns home.

Suzuki's role in the Gantz narrative is brief but significant, taking place during the Onion Alien Mission. He serves as the first person to die due to the explosive device implanted in each player's head by the black sphere, Gantz. His death also serves as a crucial warning for other characters. After he departs from the group to walk to a train station, he steps on glass, feels pain, and becomes overjoyed at the realization that he is still alive, though unaware that he is within a designated mission area. As he approaches the boundary of this zone, a strange ringing noise begins in his head. Mistaking it for a cell phone, he ignores it and inadvertently steps out of bounds, at which point the bomb in his skull detonates, killing him instantly. In the manga, Kei Kishimoto and Kei Kurono later discover his corpse, and upon hearing the same ringing in their own heads, they deduce its meaning and narrowly avoid suffering his same fate. This scene is absent from the anime adaptation.

Consequently, Goro Suzuki has no development as a fighter or participant in Gantz's deadly games. He never becomes aware of the existence of aliens and chooses not to engage with the mission objectives at all. His notable abilities are therefore non-existent in the context of the hunt; he displays no fighting skills or tactical knowledge related to the Gantz missions. However, as a former politician, it can reasonably be assumed that he is educated, intelligent, and politically savvy, though none of these traits aid him in his new circumstances. Physically, now that he has been resurrected free from his cancer, he appears to be in good health and capable of movement, but he never puts any physical skills to the test. His relationship with the other team members is minimal, as he separates from them almost immediately upon being teleported to the mission area, choosing a path of solitary hope that tragically leads to his end. He interacts briefly with figures like Takashi Inamori, Joichiro Nishi, and the yakuza Hiroshi Hatanaka, but forms no lasting bonds with any of them.
