Description
Sawa Okita is a main character in the series, daughter of temple owner Shōichi Okita and Shiho Okita. Her family resides at their temple near her school.
Sawa has dark brown pigtailed hair, brown eyes, and frequently wears headphones—notably pink and grey pairs. Her school uniform includes a white blouse, red tie, blue skirt, navy socks, and bright pink-and-blue sneakers.
Her personality blends easy-going friendliness with playful teasing, alongside strong determination and ambition that occasionally trigger emotional outbursts. She takes initiative in groups, values reliability, and intervenes when others seem unserious.
Sawa's passion for horse riding began young, centered on her horse Sabure (originally her father's). Her dream of becoming a professional jockey sparks conflict with her father, who initially deems it impractical and urges a conventional path. After his reluctant approval, she discovers an upper weight limit for equestrian schools, threatening her ambitions. Rigorous training and strict dieting to meet this requirement lead to exhaustion until friends intervene, teaching her to accept support.
She practices archery almost daily as a dedicated club member. Her best friend Konatsu Miyamoto recruits her first for the newly formed "Choir and Sometimes Badminton Club," where Sawa contributes choreography using her dancing skills. She joins only after stressing Konatsu must treat the club seriously.
Sawa openly notes Konatsu's overbearing tendencies but considers her a closest friend. Taichi Tanaka admires Sawa's supportive spirit and harbors long-standing romantic feelings; they share a private conversation before her overseas departure, and he formally asks her out a decade later, beginning a relationship. With Wakana Sakai, Sawa bonds over shared isolation experiences and aids her reintegration. Her father initially opposes her jockey dream but secretly encourages it, leading to reconciliation. Her mother Shiho shares Sawa's habit of playful encouragement pats and supports her aspirations.
After resolving family tensions and embracing friends' support, Sawa leaves Japan before her high school graduation ceremony to attend an equestrian school in Australia. Shirahamazaka High School still grants her graduation. She returns years later, reconnecting with friends.
Her name combines "sheer silk" (紗) and "wing" (羽) for "Sawa," while "Okita" means "open sea" (沖) and "rice paddy" (田). A scale figure depicts her tipping her hat beside a miniature horse symbolizing her passion.
