Description
Haruto Sakaki is a young man working as a Hunter for the STN-J, the Japanese branch of the secret organization tasked with capturing or eliminating witches. He is 18 years old, though some sources list his age as 17, and he is one of the newest members of the team, joining shortly after the protagonist, Robin Sena. His position as a recent recruit informs much of his early behavior, as he is ambitious, eager to prove himself, and deeply invested in his role as a Hunter.

In terms of personality, Sakaki is characterized as brash, hot-tempered, and highly impulsive. This often leads him to rush headfirst into dangerous situations during hunts, a tactic that sometimes produces regrettable results for the team. Despite his impatience and occasional recklessness, he is fundamentally supportive and not biased when it comes to forming friendships. When Robin first arrives, he initially fears that her presence might lead to him being replaced, but he quickly overcomes this insecurity and welcomes her as a colleague. His dialogue frequently reveals his straightforward nature, often engaging in lighthearted banter with fellow Hunter Yurika Dojima and showing a lower tolerance for inaction compared to his more experienced comrades.

Sakaki's role within the STN-J is primarily that of an action-oriented field operative. He is often on the front lines, providing support and auxiliary attacks during missions. Unlike some of his colleagues, he does not initially display any overt superhuman witch powers, and he is equipped with standard Hunter gear, including an Orbo, a compound that can suppress witch abilities and is worn around the neck. His preferred mode of transportation is a 250cc motorcycle, which he uses to navigate the city while on duty.

A significant turning point for his character occurs when he is targeted and hunted by Zaizen, a high-ranking figure within the organization. This event strongly suggests that Sakaki is what is known as an "unawakened seed," a person carrying the potential for witch powers that have not yet manifested. He is saved from this threat through the direct intervention of Robin, Amon, Dojima, and Nagira. This ordeal marks a major shift in his development, moving him from a simple hunter to someone who understands the persecution his own kind can face. Following this, he becomes more deeply involved in the central conflict, helping Robin infiltrate the Factory, a major facility central to the series' plot, in order to rescue another captured teammate, Karasuma.

His key relationships are integral to his growth. He shares a professional and friendly camaraderie with his fellow Hunters, particularly Dojima, with whom he often exchanges sarcastic remarks. His bond with Robin evolves from initial wariness to mutual respect and loyalty, as he later risks himself to support her mission. Sakaki survives the collapse of the Factory at the series' climax, and it is confirmed by another character, Michael, that he continues his work as a Hunter of witches after the events of the story. Regarding his abilities, aside from the potential to be an unawakened witch, Sakaki's notable skills are his marksmanship, his physical courage, and his tenacity in the field, compensating for his lack of supernatural gifts with sheer determination.
