TV-Series
Description
Jing is the protagonist of his namesake series, a young boy who stands as the last descendant of a legendary clan of thieves said to be capable of stealing anything, even the stars themselves. He carries the title of King of Bandits, also referred to as the Thief King or the Bandit King, a reputation that precedes him throughout the strange and imaginative world he travels.

Physically, Jing appears to be in his early teens, though his exact age is never revealed. He has black hair with a distinctive spiky style and parted bangs, and his eyes are also black. His most iconic visual symbol is a grinning, stylized black cat with swirling eyes and bared teeth, which appears on his wanted posters and various personal effects.

Jing possesses a laid-back, confident, and disarmingly cheerful personality. He approaches even the most dangerous situations with a cool, witty, and often flippant demeanor, frequently cracking jokes or making light of dire circumstances when being pursued. His signature exclamation is Bingo, and in his earliest exploits, his calling cards would often bear the mocking laughter of Ho Ho Ho. Despite his legendary status, many are surprised to find that the infamous King of Bandits is, in fact, a small and unassuming boy. Those who underestimate him based on his age do so at their own peril, as his skills are without equal.

While Jing is a master thief by trade, his motivations are rarely about material gain for its own sake. He appears to select his targets on a whim, often drawn to the challenge or the uniqueness of the item he intends to steal. In his adventures, the act of theft is frequently more about liberation than acquisition. By stealing powerful or cursed objects—such as the very concept of time in a repressive city or a weapon that causes endless grief—he inadvertently solves the problems plaguing the local populace. His thievery thus becomes a subtle, almost humanitarian act, where the "treasure" he walks away with is often less valuable than the hope his actions bring. As one description notes, the despair of being stolen from by the King of Bandits paradoxically resembles hope.

The role Jing plays in the story is that of a catalyst. As a wanderer, he arrives in a new, often surreal location in each episode, becomes entangled in its unique conflicts, and uses his skills as a thief to disrupt the status quo. His heists expose corruption, break curses, and free the oppressed, after which he typically departs for a new adventure, having taken only what he came for. This episodic structure focuses entirely on his current caper, leaving much about his own past shrouded in mystery.

The most significant relationship in Jing's life is with his partner, Kir, a wisecracking, anthropomorphic bird who is a member of a special, seemingly unique species. Kir sports a red bandana and possesses a personality that is often more cynical and worldly than Jing's, frequently attempting to flirt with beautiful women. Despite their constant banter, the bond between them is profoundly deep and extends to the core of Jing's abilities. Another recurring figure is Postino, a mysterious mailman on a motorcycle who appears to deliver important letters and packages, including a critical memento from Jing's mother, to any location in the world.

Very little is known about Jing's origin, but it is implied that he has lived his life without his mother. In a significant moment, he refuses an offer of immortality, explaining that drinking the water of eternal life would mean he could never see his mother again, strongly implying that she has passed away. His development is subtle, revealed through flashbacks and glimpses into his past, such as a childhood where he first met an egg-bound Kir, showcasing a mischievous but already formidable nature. Jing demonstrates a quiet but profound respect for his mother's memory, treating a gift from her, a gun named Crime Royal, as a precious relic.

Jing's most notable ability is his exceptional, almost superhuman skill as a thief, allowing him to infiltrate impenetrable fortresses and steal impossible objects through a combination of acrobatics, stealth, and cunning. He also carries a sharp, short blade that extends from his sleeve, which he wields with considerable skill in combat.

His most spectacular power is the Kir Royale, also known as the Royal Bone-Cannon. This technique involves his partner, Kir, physically fusing with Jing's right arm to form a cannon-like weapon. Jing's right hand is capable of generating a unique energy, a power inherited from his mother. The pistol Crime Royal was originally intended to be a conduit for this energy, a weapon his mother left for him. After that pistol was destroyed in an incident that also saw Kir hatch from his egg, the young bird became the new living conduit, transforming into the Kir Royale to unleash devastating green energy blasts. This weapon serves as Jing's ultimate trump card when faced with overwhelming opposition, though it is not infallible and its effectiveness can be tied to Kir's physical condition.
