Description
Nene Romanova is the youngest member of the Knight Sabers, a vigilante group operating in the cyberpunk world of Megatokyo. She is a skilled hacker and computer expert who works as an operator and data entry clerk for the AD Police, a position that allows her to act as an inside source for the Knight Sabers. Nene is of Russian descent and has short blonde hair and blue eyes. She was recruited into the Knight Sabers after she successfully decrypted a highly encrypted help wanted advertisement that Sylia Stingray had placed on the net, a feat that demonstrated her exceptional technical abilities.

Nene's background sets her apart from her teammates. Unlike the others, who were driven to join the Knight Sabers by personal tragedy or a desire for revenge, Nene came from a relatively stable home. She was raised by well-off but overly strict and controlling parents. Feeling suffocated by their dictatorial oversight, she ran away from home. She also grew bored with her classes at an all-girl high school, finding them too easy. To escape this monotony, she channeled her intellect into the digital world, honing her programming and hacking skills. To gain employment at the AD Police despite her youth, she hacked her own official records to inflate her age. Her motivation for joining the Knight Sabers is primarily the thrill of the challenge and the opportunity to test her skills in a real-world setting, something her school life could never provide.

In terms of personality, Nene is cheerful, candid, and often serves as a source of comic relief. She is described as bubbly, naive, and innocent, with a tendency to see her work with the Knight Sabers in a romanticized light. She has a fondness for candy and junk food and is often blissfully unaware of real-world logic. Despite her intelligence, she can be silly and easily distracted. She is also a romantic at heart, which sometimes rubs her more pragmatic teammates the wrong way. Deep down, she desperately wants to be accepted as an equal by the other Knight Sabers. Her naivete and lack of physical fitness are common sources of teasing from Priss and Linna.

Nene's role within the Knight Sabers is primarily that of a technical conductor, communications expert, and electronic warfare specialist. She is responsible for gathering intelligence, monitoring computer networks, and providing real-time information to her teammates during missions. Her position at the AD Police makes her an invaluable mole, allowing the Knight Sabers to access sensitive police files and stay one step ahead of the authorities. Her greatest skill is information gathering, and she is a master hacker capable of cracking even the toughest security measures with relative ease. She also possesses basic detective abilities and weapons mastery from her AD Police training. However, she is the least skilled member of the team in direct physical combat. She is the slowest, weakest, and least graceful, and her fighting style relies on sneakiness and using her suit's systems to avoid direct confrontation.

Nene's key relationships within the team are marked by a dynamic of being the youngest and least experienced. Priss and Linna often tease her for her lack of physical durability and her naive nature, but she remains a loyal and trusted teammate. Her respect for the AD Police sometimes puts her at odds with Priss, who is more cynical about law enforcement. She forms a bond with the other members through their shared mission, even though she is not driven by the same personal vendettas. Her interactions with Sylia are those of a leader and a recruit, with Sylia recognizing Nene's unique talents.

Over the course of the series, Nene undergoes some development. While she begins as a somewhat immature and inexperienced member, she proves her worth through her technical contributions. As the threat from the rogue boomers and the entity Galatea escalates, she is forced to confront dangerous situations beyond her comfort zone. Along with Linna, she is overwhelmed during a confrontation on a space station and forced to crash-land back on Earth, an experience that tests her resilience. Despite her initial lack of combat prowess, she receives an upgraded hardsuit later in the series that enhances her offensive capabilities, including an electromagnetic pulse striker and the ability to physically hack into a boomer's computer brain.

Nene's notable abilities are centered on her genius-level intellect in the field of computers. She is a master hacker, capable of decrypting complex codes, infiltrating secure systems, and developing various computer programs, including viruses and spyware. Her training as an AD Police operator gives her additional skills in detective work and basic weaponry. Her hardsuit is designed for communications and support rather than direct combat. Its primary weapon is a weak laser gun, which she often uses to leave the Knight Sabers' calling card signature at their scenes of action. The suit is also equipped with advanced sensor and electronic warfare systems, including radar, radio communication, and the ability to neutralize enemy communications and sensors. Later upgrades provide her with an electromagnetic pulse striker that can disable technology and the capability to interface with and hack boomer control systems directly.
