Lance is the second in command of the Voltron Force and the pilot of the Red Lion, which forms the right arm of Voltron. He was originally a member of a special exploration team led by Keith that was captured by the forces of Planet Doom, later becoming part of the team that defends the universe from Emperor Zarkon. Lance is a tall, wiry, and wily individual who often cracks jokes and teases his teammates. He can be hotheaded and occasionally disobeys Keith's orders, being the only member of the group to openly contest the leader's commands. Despite this, he takes great pride in his role as a pilot and is deeply committed to defeating Zarkon's evil forces. He is a highly skilled pilot, though his recklessness sometimes gets him into trouble. Lance has a possible romantic interest in Princess Allura, and he often clashes with Keith due to his independent streak. Over the course of the series, Lance shows growth in his sense of responsibility and loyalty to the Voltron Force, proving himself a capable and determined fighter in battle.
