Description
Piyomon is a chick-type Digimon and the partner of Sora Takenouchi in Digimon Adventure 02. She is classified as a Vaccine-attribute Digimon at the Rookie level. Physically, she is a small pink bird whose wings have developed so that they resemble arms; she can use them skillfully to grip objects, but because of this adaptation she is not a strong flier. She normally lives on the ground and only takes to the air to escape danger. Her flying ability is about the same as Patamon's, and the two share a friendly rivalry because of their similar limitations. Her dream is to become Birdramon, a Digimon that can fly freely through the sky, and she does not want to become Cockatrimon, which cannot fly at all. Her signature attack is Magical Fire, which strikes with ethereal flames.
In terms of background, Piyomon's Digitama was created alongside the eggs of the other partner Digimon by Gennai and the other agents acting on the orders of Homeostasis. The eggs were brought to File Island, where she hatched and grew through her early forms, Nyokimon and Pyocomon, before meeting Sora when the girl arrived in the Digital World. From that meeting onward, Piyomon remained closely tied to Sora, and the two developed a deep bond.
Personality-wise, Piyomon is friendly, cheerful, talkative, and very childlike. She is openly affectionate and enjoys the company and attention of others, and she wants to be friends with as many Digimon as possible. Above all, she is devoted to Sora. She is very much a spoiled, clingy partner who loves being near Sora and feels secure simply by having Sora with her; she has expressed that as long as Sora is there, she feels at ease. She is also honest and obedient, and she becomes downcast when Sora scolds her. Despite her gentle and playful nature, she is extremely brave and will not hesitate to fight when her partner or friends are in danger.
Her main motivation is to stay with and protect Sora, and to help her friends protect the Digital World. She also longs to grow into a Digimon that can soar freely, with Birdramon representing the ideal she hopes to achieve. Her rivalry with Patamon, based on their comparable flying abilities, gives her a competitive streak that is affectionate rather than hostile.
In Digimon Adventure 02, Piyomon appears as one of the returning partner Digimon, fighting alongside the original Chosen Children and lending support to the new generation of partners. During this series, her ability to evolve is no longer dependent on carrying a physical Crest; she can evolve into Birdramon, a giant flaming bird suited to aerial combat, and Garudamon, a powerful bird-like humanoid form that fights for justice. She can also use the Digimental of Love to undergo Armor Evolution into Kyukanchoumon, an alternative evolved form available to her in this series.
