Description
Kurz Weber is a mercenary employed by the clandestine anti-terrorism organization Mithril, where he holds the rank of Sergeant and serves as a member of the Special Response Team aboard the assault submarine Tuatha de Danaan with the callsign Uruz 6. He was born in Tokyo, Japan, on April 1, 1979, to West German parents, and spent his childhood in the Edogawa ward attending a regular public school. During his middle school years, his parents were killed in a terrorist bombing at a Lebanese airport, a tragedy that abruptly ended a relatively normal upbringing and set him on the path to becoming a soldier for hire. He discovered a natural gift for sharpshooting while working as a mercenary, and although he initially learned sniping under a cold and calculating mentor named Casper, he abandoned that partnership after being ordered to take a shot that left an innocent young girl badly wounded. The guilt from that incident became a defining motivation: Kurz directs much of his income from Mithril toward covering the girl’s ongoing medical expenses and organ transplants. He was eventually recruited into Mithril after an evaluation in Belize, where he initially concealed his marksmanship skills out of suspicion toward the organization. When a communist rebel attack endangered the daughter of the Belizean president, he abandoned his pretense, displayed his true proficiency, and saved the girl, earning the recognition of squad leader Melissa Mao and securing his place in the Special Response Team.

In terms of personality, Kurz Weber is outgoing, energetic, and remarkably sociable, but those traits come packaged with a relentless flirtatiousness and an unapologetically vulgar sense of humor. He is a self-styled ladies’ man whose overzealous pursuit of romantic attention regularly crosses into harassment, a behavior that particularly aggravates his squad leader, Melissa Mao. His easygoing, carefree nature often serves as comic relief and stands in stark contrast to the rigid, militaristic demeanor of his teammate Sousuke Sagara. Beneath that playful exterior, however, Kurz possesses a professional seriousness that surfaces when lives are at stake. In combat he becomes focused, aggressive, and utterly dependable, capable of visualizing the exact trajectory of a bullet to achieve near-inhuman accuracy with a sniper rifle. This duality between levity and lethal competence makes him a balanced and valuable component of his three-man cell alongside Sousuke and Melissa Mao.

Kurz’s key relationships are defined by both friction and camaraderie. He and Sousuke Sagara are close friends despite clashing personalities, and they unknowingly faced each other as adversaries years earlier on a battlefield in Lebanon, an encounter that left both deeply impressed by the other’s skill. With Melissa Mao, he shares a combative yet respectful dynamic: she frequently reprimands him for his inappropriate advances and flippant remarks, but she also acknowledges his talent and was ultimately the one who approved his Mithril recruitment. Toward Captain Teletha Testarossa, he maintains a degree of respectful loyalty, albeit laced with his characteristic irreverence. He directs lighter teasing toward Kaname Chidori, often commenting on her complicated relationship with Sousuke while offering the occasional moment of unexpected insight. These interactions ground his comedic antics in genuine connection and reveal a character who, for all his bluster, is fiercely loyal to his teammates.

Throughout the series, Kurz plays a supportive but operationally critical role. He is deployed alongside Melissa Mao and Sousuke Sagara to protect Kaname Chidori in Tokyo, and his sharpshooting feats include one memorable shot from the bed of a moving truck straight into the gun port of a Behemoth’s 30-millimeter cannon. He assists Sousuke in subduing defectors who threaten the Tuatha de Danaan, and although his hand-to-hand fighting is bluntly judged as unrefined by Mao, his long-range precision repeatedly proves decisive. Over the course of the novels, his growth is acknowledged through a promotion to Sergeant Major, reflecting the increasing trust placed in his judgment and experience.

Notable abilities extend beyond marksmanship. Kurz is an accomplished Arm Slave pilot, specializing in long-range support with the M9 Gernsback and adept at using precision cannons from the cockpit. He speaks Japanese, English, and German fluently, and before his life as a mercenary he harbored aspirations of becoming a professional blues singer, which left him with a fine singing voice and solid guitar skills. This artistic side occasionally surfaces, as when he entertains Jindai High School students with an impromptu performance. In terms of appearance, he is tall, roughly six feet, with shoulder-length blond hair styled as a mullet and light blue eyes; his good looks and charm enable him to befriend people easily, even if his romantic reputation is often undercut by his own excesses. Taken together, Kurz Weber is a figure of sharp contrasts: a crude joker who can hit a pinpoint target from extreme range, a trauma-driven altruist who acts like an irresponsible womanizer, and a friend whose loyalty runs deeper than his flippant remarks suggest.
