Description
Presea is the foremost artisan, known as a Pharle or Creator, in the magical land of Cephiro, and the only person capable of forging weapons from the legendary mineral Escudo. She is one of the master mage Clef's students and lives in a house near the Forest of Silence, where she was entrusted with caring for the creature Mokona in anticipation of the arrival of the legendary Magic Knights. In the anime, she dies shortly after completing the three Magic Knights' swords, and in the second part of the story her twin sister Sierra secretly takes her place, meaning the character who appears under Presea's name in the later episodes is actually Sierra impersonating her.
In personality, Presea is playful, cheerful, and fond of mild mischief. She has a habit of drifting into her own thoughts and losing track of the world around her, which can make her seem distracted or absentminded. She also enjoys devising humorous punishments, particularly for Mokona when the creature makes a mess, and she initially reacts to the unexpected arrival of Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu by contemplating playful ways to discipline them. Beneath this lighthearted exterior, she is deeply sincere, honest, and devoted to her duty. She takes her responsibilities seriously and shows genuine care for the people she helps, especially the three Magic Knights, in whom she places great trust.
Her primary motivation is a strong sense of duty to Cephiro. She is aware of the legend that the Magic Knights will appear when the land faces a crisis and that she, as the Master Creator, is destined to supply them with weapons. Despite the personal cost, she accepts this burden quietly for the sake of her world. She also carries a quiet, one-sided affection for Clef, which she never openly pursues.
Her role in the story is to set the Magic Knights on their path by directing them to obtain Escudo and then forging their individual swords. In the anime, she is killed during an attack by the summoner Ascot's monsters just after completing the weapons, sacrificing herself so the knights can continue their mission. In the second part of the anime, her twin sister Sierra, who shares her appearance and many of her skills, assumes her identity to continue helping the knights, unknown to the three girls. Sierra's presence preserves Presea's legacy and support for the group, though Clef, Mokona, and Alcyone eventually recognize the deception.
Presea cannot cast spells in the conventional sense, but her weapon crafting itself functions as a form of magic powered by will and concentration. Instead of using a traditional forge, she shapes weapons through a graceful, ritual-like ceremony of song and dance, during which her clothing changes into a specialized white dress. This process is extremely draining and leaves her exhausted. She is also personally skilled with a sword and capable of defending herself, as seen when she deals with monsters that intrude on her home. Her greatest ability is the creation of Escudo weapons, which have the unique quality of growing and evolving alongside the warriors who use them, making them the key to awakening the great Rune-Gods that the Magic Knights need to fight.
