Description
Mr. Satan, born Mark, is a character from the Dragon Ball Z series. He is a human martial artist who trained at a dojo called Satan Castle and eventually became the reigning World Martial Arts Champion after the stronger Z-Fighters stopped participating in tournaments. His real name is a pun on the Japanese word for devil, and Mr. Satan is a stage name he adopted after his dojo.

In terms of personality, Mr. Satan is flamboyant, charismatic, and deeply vain. He craves public adoration and presents himself as the world's greatest hero, often exaggerating his accomplishments. Beneath this outward confidence, he is cowardly and aware of his own limitations when faced with truly superhuman threats. However, he also possesses a genuine good heart, especially toward his family and friends, and shows moments of unexpected bravery and selflessness.

His primary motivation is the pursuit of fame, wealth, and the love of the public. He initially lies about his role in defeating Cell, taking credit for the victory, which solidifies his status as a global celebrity. Over time, his motivations shift as he forms a genuine bond with Majin Buu and eventually contributes to saving the world not through physical power but through his influence over the people of Earth.

Mr. Satan's role in the story is multifaceted. He serves as comic relief, often providing humorous situations due to his inflated ego and the contrast between his claims and reality. Yet he also plays a critical part in key story arcs. During the Cell Games, his action of bringing Android 16's head near Gohan inadvertently helps trigger Gohan's transformation into Super Saiyan 2. In the Majin Buu saga, he befriends the innocent side of Buu, helping the creature learn concepts like friendship and compassion. His most significant contribution occurs during the final battle against Kid Buu, when his popularity enables him to rally all the people of Earth to contribute their energy to Goku's Spirit Bomb, directly enabling the victory that saves the universe.

Key relationships include his daughter Videl, whom he loves deeply and becomes protective of. Through Videl's marriage to Son Gohan, Mr. Satan becomes part of the extended Z-Fighter family and a grandfather to Pan. His most transformative relationship is with Majin Buu, whom he accepts as a friend and later cares for as a companion. Goku and the other Z-Fighters respect Mr. Satan enough to let him take public credit for their victories, allowing them to maintain normal private lives.

Character development is evident across the series. Initially presented as a boastful fraud who cheats his way to fame, Mr. Satan gradually reveals a capacity for genuine heroism. He risks his life to help Gohan during the Cell Games, protects his friends during the Buu saga, and ultimately uses his influence selflessly to aid Goku. By the end of Dragon Ball Z, he is recognized as a true hero in his own right, despite his lack of superhuman abilities.

Notable abilities come from his training as a martial artist. Among ordinary humans, he is extremely strong, fast, and skilled, having won multiple world tournaments through legitimate means. However, he possesses no ki manipulation, cannot fly, and has no energy attacks. His signature techniques include the Dynamite Kick, the Megaton Punch, and the Satan Miracle Special Ultra Super Mega Punch. He also relies on his charisma and showmanship to influence others. Over time, his physical fitness declines due to his indulgent lifestyle, but his cunning and popularity remain potent assets.
