TV-Series
Description
George, known as Genta Kojima in the original Japanese version, is a first-grade student at Teitan Elementary School. He is introduced when Shinichi Kudo, after being transformed into the body of a child, joins his class under the alias Conan Edogawa. George quickly befriends his new classmate, and alongside Ayumi Yoshida and Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya, he becomes a founding member of the Detective Boys. He lives with his parents, who run a liquor store called Kojima Liquors, and he appears to be an only child.
Physically, George is the most robust and heavyset child in his group, and his large size is a defining characteristic. His head is shaped like a triangle, often compared to an onigiri rice ball, and he has a notable bald spot on the left side.
George has a straightforward and brash personality. He is outspoken, rarely uses formal language even with adults, and often acts on impulse without fully thinking through the consequences. This lack of awareness frequently leads the Detective Boys into unexpected and dangerous situations. Despite his rough demeanor, he possesses a strong sense of justice and a kind heart, proving himself to be a loyal and dependable friend to those he cares about. His most prominent trait is his enormous appetite; his love for food, especially braised eel over rice, is a central aspect of his character, and he can consume more than all of his friends combined.
George’s primary motivation is his role as the self-proclaimed leader of the Detective Boys. He is proud of this position and is always eager to take charge of their investigations. However, his leadership is largely nominal. In practice, the group, including George himself, unconsciously looks to the far more capable Conan Edogawa as the true leader who guides them through cases and steers them away from danger. George is also motivated by a strong loyalty to his friends and a desire to help others, which drives him to participate in the group's activities.
Within the story, George serves as a key member of the Junior Detective League. He provides much of the group’s comic relief through his gluttony, blunt comments, and tendency to create problems. Despite his shortcomings, his physical strength and courage are assets in the field, and his simple, direct way of thinking can sometimes lead to a key observation that helps solve a mystery.
His most significant relationships are with his fellow Detective Boys. He shares a friendly rivalry with Mitsuhiko, particularly for the affection of Ayumi Yoshida, for whom he has a noticeable crush. He is protective of Ayumi and values his friendship with Mitsuhiko and Conan. He also interacts with adults like Professor Hiroshi Agasa and Ran Mouri, who often look after the group. He has a degree of respect for authority figures, such as Detectives Wataru Takagi and Kazunobu Chiba, though he typically speaks to them without formal politeness.
George shows little in the way of long-term character development, remaining consistently impulsive and food-driven. However, his role within the group has softened over time. While initially presented as a bit of a bully who would grab others by their shirts, he has evolved into the comedic heart of the Detective Boys, with his rough edges smoothing into an endearing and enthusiastic nature. He is capable of recognizing his mistakes and showing genuine remorse, learning from situations when the importance of responsibility is made clear to him.
His notable abilities are primarily physical. Due to his large frame, he possesses significant strength for a child his age, which can be useful in a variety of situations. However, his stamina is limited, and he tires easily after physical exertion like running. Beyond his physicality, his most notable "ability" is his unwavering loyalty and willingness to take risks to help his friends, even if his methods are often clumsy and ill-conceived.
