Description
Cleo is a character from the 1990 anime television series Adventures of Robin Hood. Her background is closely tied to her older brother, Gilbert. Orphaned as children, the siblings became very attached to one another, with Gilbert taking on the role of caretaker. Cleo was originally living in a monastery when she lost contact with her brother. After receiving no news from him, she left the safety of the monastery and traveled to Nottingham to find him. Upon her arrival, she was deceived by the scheming Baron Alwyn into believing that the outlaw Robin Hood was responsible for her brother's death. Consumed by a desire for vengeance, Cleo takes command of the Black Rose Knights, Nottingham's most formidable military force which was previously led by her brother, and leads them into Sherwood Forest to confront Robin.

In terms of personality, Cleo is initially driven by a fierce and single-minded desire for revenge. She is portrayed as a determined and capable young woman, courageous enough to lead a band of elite knights into battle. Her actions are motivated by deep familial loyalty and love for her brother, and her grief over his supposed death makes her vulnerable to manipulation by Baron Alwyn. However, beneath her vengeful exterior lies a sense of justice and the capacity for reason. When she ultimately learns the truth about the circumstances surrounding her brother, she is able to set aside her vendetta.

Cleo's primary role in the story is as an antagonist who is later revealed to be an ally. She serves as a foil to Robin Hood, arriving as a formidable enemy who believes she is acting righteously. Her personal conflict with Robin adds a layer of dramatic tension, as she is not an inherently evil character but one misled by false information. Her search for her brother is a key subplot that intersects with the main narrative. After the truth comes to light and her conflict with Robin is resolved, she becomes a supporting figure in the larger struggle against Baron Alwyn.

Her key relationships are central to her character arc. The most significant is with her brother, Gilbert, a knight initially sworn to capture Robin. Gilbert's disappearance and presumed death are what spur Cleo into action. The revelation that Robin was not her brother's killer, and Gilbert's eventual return, are the catalysts for her transformation. Additionally, a forum discussion from a fan of the series suggests that Cleo develops a romantic interest in Robin Hood, and their relationship was noted as a compelling element of the story for some viewers, though her feelings are not necessarily reciprocated as Robin's primary love interest is Marian.

Cleo undergoes significant development from a vengeful adversary to a trusted companion. She begins as an antagonist manipulated by the baron's lies. After learning the truth, she abandons her hatred and joins forces with Robin's band. This shift represents a move from grief-stricken aggression to rational cooperation. Her ability to be swayed by evidence and her willingness to change her allegiance demonstrates a flexible and pragmatic, as well as honourable, nature.

Regarding notable abilities, Cleo is portrayed as a skilled leader and combatant. She is able to command the loyalty and respect of the Black Rose Knights, an elite fighting force, indicating she possesses authority and tactical acumen. She is also capable of holding her own in direct confrontation, as she leads her knights into the forest to personally engage Robin and his men in battle.
