Description
Lady Une is introduced as a colonel in the special forces unit OZ and the personal assistant to Treize Khushrenada during the After Colony conflicts. Her background is not deeply detailed in the main series, but she is known to be driven by an intense devotion to Treize and his vision for the world. This devotion is the core of her personality and motivations. She suffers from dissociative identity disorder, manifesting three distinct personalities over the course of the story. The first is the militaristic Lady Une, who is cold, ruthless, and highly efficient in carrying out orders, even when they involve assassination or mass intimidation. The second personality emerges after Treize criticizes her lack of subtlety and encourages a more diplomatic approach; this version is calm, poised, and committed to pacifism and negotiation, presenting herself as a charming and persuasive ambassador. The third personality appears after she is shot and enters a coma, fusing the traits of both earlier selves into a more balanced individual who retains military skill and decisive action but also values peaceful resolution and human life.
Her role in the story begins as a formidable antagonist. She carries out the assassination of Vice Foreign Minister Darlian and attempts to kill Relena Peacecraft, then leads OZ forces against the Gundam pilots, at one point threatening to destroy a space colony to force their surrender. Her motivations are solely to serve Treize and further his plans, even when she does not fully understand them. A key turning point occurs when Treize sends her to the colonies as an ambassador; this triggers the emergence of her peace-oriented personality. The two personalities eventually come into conflict over issues such as the Mobile Doll program, and she is shot by Chief Engineer Tubarov while trying to save captured Gundam pilots. While in a coma, she misses critical events, including Treize's confession that he loved her. Upon awakening, her personalities have merged, and she steals a Gundam to reach Treize in space, saving his life during a battle. She then acts as his chief of staff and is the sole witness to his final duel with Wufei Chang, accepting his death as part of his chosen path.
After the war, Lady Une becomes the leader of the Preventers, a peacekeeping organization under the Earth Sphere Unified Nation. In the events of Endless Waltz, she plays a decisive role in confronting the Mariemaia rebellion. She breaks into the presidential bunker to protect Relena and Mariemaia Khushrenada, Treize’s daughter, and after the rebellion's end, she adopts Mariemaia and raises her as her own child. Her key relationships include her unshakable loyalty and love for Treize, which shapes her entire arc, and later her maternal bond with Mariemaia. Her notable abilities include strategic command, piloting a modified mobile suit, and a capacity for both brutal military tactics and sincere diplomacy. Her development is marked by the resolution of her internal conflict, leading to a stable, capable leader who honors Treize’s ideals without losing her own identity.
