Cecília Lemes

Description
Cecília Lemes is a highly respected Brazilian voice actress, known for her extensive work dubbing anime and live-action series into Portuguese. Born on April 10, 1960, in São Paulo, Brazil, she began her career in entertainment as a child actress in the late 1960s. Her transition into voice acting occurred at the age of 11 during the filming of her debut movie, A Marca da Ferradura, when she successfully advocated to dub her own lines, marking her entry into the dubbing profession. This early experience set her on a path to become one of Brazil's most renowned voice artists, with a career spanning over five decades.

Lemes's portfolio of anime voice roles is vast and varied, showcasing her ability to portray a wide range of characters. She is well-known for voicing Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage, across the Naruto franchise, including Naruto, Naruto Shippūden, and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Another significant role is Lady Une in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and its sequel, Endless Waltz. She has also contributed her voice to several Studio Ghibli films, such as Ouna in The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, Homily in The Secret World of Arrietty, Gran Mamare in Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, and Matrona in Earwig and the Witch. Her film work also includes the titular character Ai in Ai City and a role in the English dub of Akira.

In television anime, her credits are extensive. She voiced the title character Ran Tsukikage in Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran and played the dual roles of Sloth and Trisha Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist, later taking on the part of Olivier Mira Armstrong in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. She is also the voice of Dr. Reese Drake in Dinosaur King, Wyvern in Bakugan Battle Brawlers, and King in Art of Fighting. More recent roles include characters in Mob Psycho 100, Aggretsuko, and Overlord II. She even provided a voice for the Brazilian Portuguese dub of the live-action Ghost in the Shell film.

While not a recurring collaboration with a single Japanese director or studio, her work demonstrates a long-standing relationship with the Brazilian dubbing industry, where she has become a go-to voice for a multitude of characters. Beyond acting, Lemes has also worked as a dubbing director and narrator, further cementing her place in the industry.

Throughout her career, Cecília Lemes has received recognition for her contributions. She won the Prêmio Yamato (considered the "Oscar of dubbing" in Brazil) for Best Supporting Dubbing Actress for her work as Chiquinha in the redub of the live-action series Chaves, a role for which she is an iconic figure in Brazilian popular culture. Her legacy is defined by her versatile performances, her pioneering spirit in the field, and her continued activity, connecting with fans and taking on new roles in projects like the video game Mortal Kombat 1 as recently as 2023.
