Description
Kathy, granddaughter of the infamous pirate Captain Flint, possesses a feisty and resolute personality marked by intelligence and resourcefulness. Her direct lineage links her to the treasure map central to the story, a creation of her grandfather, granting her a personal stake in the quest.

She first appears imprisoned on Pirate Island, encountering the captured Jim and his mouse companion Gran. Kathy aids their escape from the holding cell. Later, during a gathering of pirate captains, she steals the treasure map from Jim, asserting her claim through her lineage.

Lacking a ship to reach Treasure Island, Kathy negotiates passage with the pirate Baron, though Captain Silver soon usurps control. Throughout the voyage, she vigilantly guards the map against Silver's repeated theft attempts, distrusting all pirates. Jim covertly assists her in thwarting these schemes. A storm wrecks their ship near Treasure Island, leading to Kathy's capture by Silver's pirates.

To secure the safety of Jim, Gran, and the stowaway infant Baboo, Kathy strikes a bargain with Silver: she agrees to lead him to the treasure's exact location in exchange for their protection. Anticipating betrayal, she devises a counterplan. Ascending the volcanic peak with Silver and his lieutenant Spider, she reveals an access mechanism when Silver threatens Jim's life.

The mechanism unexpectedly drains the volcano's crater lake instead of releasing treasure. The resulting flood sweeps Silver and Spider out to sea, exposing Captain Flint's sunken ship and the treasure on the drained lakebed. Kathy participates in the treasure recovery alongside Jim, Gran, and reformed pirates. Following their success, she departs with Jim aboard Silver's ship, leaving Silver behind.

Kathy's arc evolves from a solitary, distrustful figure focused solely on her goal to someone valuing cooperation and friendship, particularly with Jim. Her actions consistently demonstrate courage, quick thinking under pressure, and a willingness to sacrifice personal gain for others' safety, exemplified when she gives up the treasure's secret to protect Jim. Her background as Flint's descendant and intimate knowledge of his methods prove crucial to navigating the island's challenges.
