Description
Kraken is a pirate captain who commands the feared Octopus Gang and serves as a recurring antagonist. He operates from his ship, Skullhaven, and is characterized by a brutal, cunning personality paired with a theatrical and relentless pursuit of power. His ultimate goal is to reclaim the legendary Power Stones in order to revive his fallen crew and reestablish his reign of terror across the seas. In terms of background, when the story begins Kraken is the sole survivor of his once-mighty pirate band, which lends a grim urgency to his ambition. Physically, he is a towering figure standing nearly seven feet tall and heavily built, recognizable by his long blue hair and a large mechanical right hand that can be fitted with various attachments for combat and intimidation.

Within the narrative, Kraken first draws attention when reports surface of sailors being attacked by giant octopus tentacles off the coast of Wood Land. The protagonists, including Edward Falcon and Wang-Tang, investigate the disturbances and discover that Kraken and his underlings are behind the assaults. Falcon’s stubbornness during the investigation leads to his capture by Kraken, establishing the pirate as a direct physical threat. Kraken later resurfaces indirectly by supplying explosives to the corrupt oracle Neros in Fire Land, thereby enabling manufactured disasters that prop up Neros’s fraudulent authority. These actions show Kraken’s willingness to destabilize regions and ally with other villains if it furthers his own ends.

Kraken’s key relationships center on his opposition to the heroes. He is the leader of the Octopus Gang, though his crew is largely absent by the time the main events unfold, making him a lonely but determined figure. His direct encounters mainly involve Falcon, Wang-Tang, and Ayame. It is Ayame who ultimately claims his Power Stone after several confrontations, stripping him of its transformative power. This loss marks a turning point that diminishes his threat level yet reinforces his role as a significant obstacle for the heroes to overcome.

In terms of abilities, Kraken fights with a straightforward buccaneer style that can overwhelm opponents with heavy, knockout blows. He wields the Power Stone of Water, which allows him to undergo a Power Change into a spectral form called the Ghost Pirate. In this transformed state, his appearance becomes ghastly: his head takes on the likeness of a skull, his mechanical claw becomes razor-sharp, and his firearm morphs into a small cannon, granting him heightened offensive capability. The combination of his artificial right hand and his temporary ghost-like enhancements makes him a formidable close- and mid-range combatant.

Kraken does not undergo a redemptive arc; instead, his development is one of dwindling menace as he loses his prized Power Stone and his plans crumble. His journey illustrates the dangers of single-minded greed for the artifacts and the emptiness of ruling through fear alone. Across the series, he embodies the classic greedy pirate archetype, driven by a desire to resurrect his fallen glory, and he remains a consistent adversarial presence until the heroes ultimately put an end to his machinations.
