Description
Niji Vinsmoke, also known as Dengeki Blue, is the second son and third child of the Vinsmoke family, making him a prince of the Germa Kingdom and a commander in its military force, Germa 66. He was genetically modified before birth by his father, Vinsmoke Judge, as part of an experiment to create emotionless super-soldiers, and the modifications took fully in him, leaving him devoid of empathy and kindness. Niji is often described as the most cruelly tempered among the Vinsmoke brothers, taking open pleasure in tormenting his younger brother Sanji during their childhood. He views weakness with contempt and treats those he considers inferior with arrogance and brutality. His primary motivation is aligned with his father’s ambition to restore Germa’s former glory, and he serves as a loyal but heartless commander in the family’s mercenary army. In the story, Niji appears as a major antagonist during the first half of the Whole Cake Island Arc, where he clashes with Sanji and aids in the Vinsmoke family’s schemes. Despite his cruelty, he fights alongside his brothers and Sanji when the Big Mom Pirates threaten their lives, briefly setting aside past grievances. This moment hints at a small degree of familial loyalty, though his personality remains largely unchanged. Niji’s notable abilities stem from his genetic enhancements, which grant him superhuman strength, speed, and durability, as well as an exoskeleton that makes him bulletproof and highly resistant to damage. He wields the power of electrokinesis, referred to as Sparking Blue, allowing him to generate and strike with bursts of electricity in combat. He can electrify parts of his body or imbue objects such as a sword with electrical energy. Additionally, he uses a technologically advanced Raid Suit that enhances his natural powers, providing the ability to fly, increased speed, and a fireproof, bulletproof cape. His combat style is aggressive and efficient, and he has demonstrated the ability to hold his own against high-ranking enemies. Key relationships include his father Judge, whom he respects and follows, his brothers Ichiji and Yonji, with whom he shares a cold but cooperative bond, his sister Reiju, who is more compassionate but still part of the family, and Sanji, whom he bullied relentlessly as a child and continues to despise, though they can temporarily cooperate under extreme circumstances. Throughout his role, Niji embodies the cold, engineered ruthlessness that defines the Vinsmoke family’s approach to power.
