Description
Dolton is a character from the manga and anime series One Piece. He is introduced as the captain of the royal guard of the Drum Kingdom, a country on the Great Line known for its winter climate and unique mushroom-shaped mountains. Following the story's events on his home island, he becomes the king of a newly formed nation called the Sakura Kingdom.

Dolton is a man of considerable height, standing over seven feet tall, with slicked-back black hair, a goatee, and a sturdy, muscular build. He typically wears a long green tunic lined with white fur to protect against the cold, along with armored plates on his arms and long boots. His primary weapon is an oversized spade, which he carries on his back and uses with great skill.

His personality is defined by a profound sense of honor, compassion, and loyalty. Dolton is a brave warrior who genuinely cares for the well-being of the people of his kingdom, and in return, they hold a deep trust in him. He is known for being kind, honest, and remarkably humble. This humility is demonstrated by his choice, even after becoming king, to refuse living in the royal castle, instead preferring to reside in a modest home among the common villagers. Despite his intimidating appearance, Dolton is deeply moved by acts of sacrifice and courage. He has a peculiar habit of offering trivial or unsolicited information when explaining a topic and has a fondness for a local dish of rice with chestnuts.

Dolton's motivations are rooted in a deep-seated devotion to his homeland, which is tested by his disgust for the tyranny of his former king, Wapol. For many years, he served the Drum Kingdom out of loyalty to Wapol's late father, a just king. However, he grew increasingly horrified by the spoiled and cruel prince's actions. A pivotal moment occurs when he witnesses the charlatan doctor Hiriluk willingly sacrifice himself in a futile attempt to save the kingdom. Moved to tears by Hiriluk's noble spirit, Dolton openly rebels against Wapol, condemning his rule. This act of defiance leads to his imprisonment and torture.

His role in the larger story is primarily as an ally to the Straw Hat Pirates. When the crew arrives at Drum Island seeking a doctor for a sick Nami, Dolton is initially hostile. However, seeing the sincerity of the crew's desperation, particularly when Vivi and Luffy beg for help, he decides to assist them. He explains the island's history, warns them of the dangers, and later directly confronts the returning Wapol to protect his people and prevent the tyrant from reclaiming power. Following Wapol's defeat at the hands of Monkey D. Luffy, the grateful citizens elect Dolton as their new leader, and he renames the country the Sakura Kingdom in honor of Hiriluk's dream.

Dolton forms several key relationships. He holds a deep respect for Princess Nefertari Vivi, remembering her courage as a child when Wapol bullied her at a World Conference, which first made him question his own king. He is on good terms with the eccentric Dr. Kureha, accepting her brusque manner and respecting her role in saving the kingdom. He also shares a significant bond with Tony Tony Chopper, having saved the young reindeer's life years prior by stopping him from a suicide attack on Wapol. He watches over Chopper from a distance and takes pride in his accomplishments. His relationship with the Straw Hat Pirates evolves from wariness to deep gratitude, as they were the ones who liberated his country.

His development is central to his story. He transitions from a loyal but conflicted servant of a cruel king to a brave revolutionary willing to sacrifice his life for his principles. After Wapol's fall, he grows from a captain of the guard into a beloved and humble elected king, demonstrating that he is a better leader than the hereditary monarch he replaced. Years later, he is seen attending the World Conference as the king of the Sakura Kingdom, proudly representing his nation on the global stage.

Dolton possesses several notable abilities. He is a Devil Fruit user who has eaten the Ox-Ox Fruit, model Bison, a Zoan-type fruit that allows him to transform into a full bison or a powerful half-human, half-bison hybrid form. In his hybrid form, which resembles a minotaur, his already great physical strength is significantly enhanced. He can use this form for a devastating charging attack known as Fiddle Banff or Violin Attack, where he spins his spade at incredible speed to slice through multiple targets. His speed in his transformed state is considerable, allowing him to dodge gunfire and move swiftly across great distances. Beyond his combat skills, Dolton also demonstrates strong leadership and administrative abilities, successfully holding his kingdom together during its most chaotic period.
