TV-Series
Description
Leo is a member of the Tontatta Tribe, a race of diminutive dwarves from the Tontatta Kingdom located on the island of Green Bit near Dressrosa. He stands approximately 23 centimeters tall and is 25 years old. His appearance is typical of his tribe: he has a small stature, a large fluffy tail, and a pointed nose. His long brown hair is usually topped with a green, crown-like hat that has one bent point. He wears a green jumper, goggles, beige boots and gloves, and a red tie. He is often seen carrying a gun, and after forming his own pirate crew, he adopts a dark pirate coat and a hat bearing his crew’s jolly roger.
Leo’s personality reflects his role as a warrior and leader. He is brave, righteous, and deeply loyal to his friends and family. He follows the laws of his kingdom strictly, as shown when he demanded that Nico Robin surrender a weapon or her clothing in exchange for her freedom, a custom of the Tontatta people. Like other dwarves, he is extremely gullible and trusting, which makes him susceptible to deception. However, he also possesses a strong will and refuses to believe ill of those he respects, such as when he defended Usopp against Trebol’s claims of cowardice. Leo is notably oblivious in matters of romance, consistently misinterpreting Princess Mansherry’s affectionate behavior as selfishness or capriciousness. His ignorance extends to Devil Fruits as well, as he refers to his own and Robin’s powers as magic rather than understanding their true nature.
Leo’s primary motivation is the protection and liberation of his people and the kingdom of Dressrosa. He despises Donquixote Doflamingo for the tyrant’s cruel rule and for enslaving his fellow dwarves at the SMILE Factory. He also holds deep resentment toward Trebol and Sugar, who directly aided in the oppression of the Tontatta. Leo is driven by a strong sense of justice and a desire to restore the Riku family to power, a family he has known since childhood.
Leo plays a key role in the Dressrosa Arc as the leader of the Tonta Corps, a militia of Tontatta warriors. He is instrumental in Operation SOP, a plan to force Sugar to eat a spicy pepper and lose consciousness, thereby breaking her power that had turned many Dressrosa citizens into toys. He accompanies Usopp in this mission, and despite initial failures and Usopp’s temporary retreat, the operation ultimately succeeds. Following Doflamingo’s defeat, Leo’s group is reformed into the Tontatta Pirates, and he becomes the captain of the fifth ship of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, pledging loyalty to Monkey D. Luffy.
Leo has a close relationship with his grandmother, Grabar, whom he loves so much that he once stitched her to their house to keep her safe. He cares deeply for Princess Mansherry, though he remains unaware of her romantic feelings toward him. Fellow dwarves trust his leadership and combat prowess implicitly. He holds immense respect for Kyros, whom he considers a source of hope for Dressrosa and the one responsible for inspiring the Tontatta to resist Doflamingo. Leo similarly venerates Usopp, initially believing him to be a descendant of the legendary Mont Blanc Noland. After Usopp’s heroic actions, Leo and the dwarves build statues to honor both Usopp and Kyros. He also has a good rapport with Sai of the Happo Navy, and the two fight side by side when defending Princess Shirahoshi from the World Noble Charlos. Leo’s bond with the Straw Hat Pirates is strong, and he openly expresses support for Luffy’s crew.
Notable abilities include the power of the Sew-Sew Fruit, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows Leo to stitch anything together, including people, objects, and even wounds. He can create durable threads that bind enemies or repair structures. Despite his tiny size, his physical strength is surprisingly high for a Tontatta, and he is considered the strongest warrior of his tribe. He is also a skilled commander and frontline fighter, often leading charges and coordinating troop movements during battle.
