Description
Fullbody, known by the epithet "Double Ironfist," is a Marine officer who initially served as a Headquarters lieutenant before experiencing a series of rank changes throughout the story. He first appears as a minor antagonist during the Baratie and Arabasta arcs, where his arrogance and overconfidence lead to clashes with the Straw Hat Pirates, particularly the cook Sanji. Fullbody’s background includes leading an ambush against the weakened Krieg Pirates and successfully capturing Gin, though his smugness caused him to underestimate his prisoners. His personality at the start is marked by vanity and a self-perception as a ladies’ man, often flaunting his rank and underestimating others. He is a capable fighter who uses metal knuckle dusters, originally wielding one and later two, earning his updated nickname. Despite his pride, Fullbody demonstrates a genuine sense of duty and concern for innocent civilians. A pivotal turn in his life occurs when he meets Jango, the former first mate of the Black Cat Pirates, through a dance competition on Mirrorball Island. The two become close friends, sharing a passion for dancing. When Jango is sentenced to death for his past piracy, Fullbody intercedes on his behalf, accepting a demotion to seaman recruit in exchange for Jango’s pardon. This act shows his capacity for loyalty and self-sacrifice. After the timeskip, Fullbody has worked his way back up to the rank of lieutenant commander, serving under Rear Admiral Hina alongside Jango. Both harbor an unrequited romantic interest in Hina. While Fullbody retains some of his earlier arrogance, his experiences have tempered him somewhat, and he continues to pursue his duties with a mix of ambition and occasional reluctance, especially when it comes to confronting Sanji, against whom he holds a lasting grudge. His role in the story remains that of a recurring supporting Marine, often appearing in cover serials and minor sequences that highlight his friendship with Jango and his ongoing career within the organization.
