Description
Machvise is a supporting antagonist in the Dressrosa Arc of the anime and manga series One Piece, serving as an officer in the Donquixote Pirates' Diamante Army. He was born in the North Blue and consumed the Ton Ton no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants him the ability to drastically increase his own body weight, measured in metric tons. This power allows him to crush opponents by leaping high into the air and landing on them with immense force, capable of cracking stone and even breaking the bones of a giant. He also carries a large, round cross-shaped shield, which he uses in conjunction with his Devil Fruit to amplify his crushing attacks.
As a child, Machvise ate the Ton Ton no Mi, but this made him a target for those who sought to kill him and take the fruit's power, forcing him to live on the run. Eventually, the pirate Donquixote Doflamingo took an interest in Machvise's ability, and after being unable to escape, Machvise joined Doflamingo's crew. He participated in the crew's infiltration and takeover of Dressrosa, standing alongside Doflamingo and the other officers. He later entered the Corrida Colosseum tournament for the Mera Mera no Mi as a representative of the Donquixote family.
Machvise displays a contradictory personality. On one hand, he can show a kind of compassion, such as when he expressed concern for Baby 5 after she was shot, though his manner sometimes comes across as mocking. On the other hand, he is headstrong and ruthless in combat, demonstrated when he mercilessly attacked the injured giant Hajrudin, showing no restraint even against a barely standing opponent. He also has a habit of ending sentences with a drawn-out sound, often replacing the final consonant with an emphasis on the preceding vowel. His laugh is distinctive: Nihihihihihi.
Machvise's notable abilities stem from the Ton Ton no Mi. He can raise his weight to tens of thousands of tons, and his body's durability is extremely high; he does not flinch when crashing through thick stone, and he can shrug off powerful kicks from enemies like Dellinger that seriously injure others. In combat, he often uses his weight in conjunction with his shield, throwing it onto enemies while increasing its mass. He also participates in the Colosseum tournaments where, alongside the other officers of the Diamante Army, he boasts a perfect winning record when entering as a group.
Among the officers, Machvise works closely with Senor Pink, Dellinger, and others under the command of Diamante. During the Dressrosa conflict, he fought against Franky and the former Colosseum gladiators, defeating the Happo Navy lieutenant Boo and severely wounding Hajrudin before being ultimately defeated by the giant. After the fall of the Donquixote family, Machvise was captured by the Marines.
Despite his large, overweight appearance with long wavy blond hair under a red hat, a large beard and mustache, and a hairy chest, Machvise often strikes pirouette-like stances, an odd contrast to his size. His loyalty to Doflamingo remains strong, and he is ready to fight any Marine who arrives after Doflamingo's resignation as a Warlord. His role in the story is primarily as a formidable enforcer for the Donquixote Pirates, using his overwhelming weight to threaten the protagonists during the Dressrosa Arc.
