Description
Dalton is a prominent character from the Drum Kingdom, who later becomes the king of its successor state, the Sakura Kingdom. A man defined by his unwavering sense of honor and deep compassion for his people, Dalton stands as a pillar of morality in a land once terrorized by a tyrannical ruler.

Standing at an imposing 218 centimeters, Dalton is a tall and muscular man with slicked-back black hair and a goatee. Before becoming a leader, he served as the captain of the royal guard for the old Drum Kingdom. His life was profoundly shaped by the despotic rule of King Wapol, a selfish and abusive tyrant. For years, Dalton endured Wapol's cruelty, motivated largely by a deep-seated loyalty and indebtedness to Wapol's late father, a wise king Dalton had served and respected. The turning point came when Dalton witnessed the selfless sacrifice of the quack doctor, Hiriluk. Moved to tears by the doctor's final moments, Dalton openly defied Wapol, insulting him to his face and paying for his courage with a severe beating and imprisonment. Soon after, when the Blackbeard Pirates attacked the kingdom, Wapol fled without a fight. Dalton remained, taking charge to prevent the island from falling into chaos and quickly earning the trust of the citizenry.

Dalton's personality is defined by a quiet but fierce nobility. He is a courageous warrior and a deeply compassionate individual who genuinely cares for the welfare of others. Unlike many who served under Wapol, Dalton possesses a strong conscience and is willing to sacrifice his life for the well-being of the kingdom, a trait he demonstrated by fighting against his former master with fatal injuries. He is remarkably honorable, despising his past service to Wapol. As the new king of the Sakura Kingdom, he lives a simple, humble life, refusing to reside in the castle and preferring to live amongst the common people in the village of Bighorn. He has an endearing habit of offering completely trivial, unsolicited information when explaining things and is known to favor a dish of rice with chestnuts.

Within the story, Dalton plays a crucial role during the Drum Island Arc. When the Straw Hat Pirates arrive seeking a doctor for the ill Nami, Dalton is initially hostile. However, moved by the desperate pleas of Vivi and Monkey D. Luffy, he relents and guides them toward Dr. Kureha, the only physician on the island. He later confronts the returning Wapol to protect his people, bravely fighting against him and his officers. Although he is gravely wounded and buried in an avalanche, he survives. After Luffy defeats Wapol, a liberated Dalton expresses profound gratitude, and the people of Drum Island elect him to be their new king, renaming their home the Sakura Kingdom.

This event marks the beginning of Dalton's development from a conflicted, loyal servant to a beloved and effective leader. He maintains significant relationships with several key characters. He harbors a deep hatred and disappointment for his former master, Wapol, viewing him as a despicable coward. In contrast, he holds Dr. Kureha in high regard, allowing her the freedom to do as she pleases despite her disrespectful attitude toward him, and he keeps a watchful eye on her "son," Tony Tony Chopper. Dalton has the utmost respect for the young reindeer doctor, having saved Chopper's life in the past by stopping him from a vengeful, hopeless attack on Wapol. He also greatly admires Princess Nefertari Vivi, remembering her strength as a child during a World Conference, and years later, he stands up for her again when Wapol attempts to insult her. He is a steadfast ally and supporter of the Straw Hat Pirates, his initial hostility having turned into lasting gratitude for their role in liberating his homeland.

In terms of abilities, Dalton is a formidable fighter. He possesses the power of the Ushi Ushi no Mi, Model: Bison, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a full bison or a human-bison hybrid at will. This fruit grants him incredible physical strength, endurance, and immense charging power. Interestingly, his most notable trait in battle is his speed; in his beast and hybrid forms, he can move so quickly that he appears to leave afterimages, allowing him to dodge gunfire and strike multiple enemies in rapid succession. His primary weapon is an oversized spade-like polearm, which he wields with great proficiency. His signature technique, Fiddle Banff, involves him racing forward at tremendous speed in his hybrid form and slicing through any opponents in his path with his spade. His resilience is equally remarkable, as he survived being shot with multiple arrows and buried under a massive avalanche. Beyond combat, his leadership skills are considerable, as he successfully rebuilt a nation from the ground up in the wake of tyranny and disaster.
