Description
Duke Inuarashi is a prominent character from the canine Mink tribe, distinguished as one of the two former rulers of the Mokomo Dukedom on the island of Zou, where he was known as the Ruler of Day. Physically, he is an enormous and muscular anthropomorphic dog, standing at an imposing 511 centimeters tall. His brown fur is complemented by a white beard, and he typically wears a blue vest beneath a thick red fur coat, accompanied by a pair of small blue sunglasses and a prominent scar on the left side of his face. After a brutal torture that resulted in the loss of his left leg, he adapts by using a sword as a functional prosthetic, allowing him to fight as a powerful two-sword style swordsman.

Inuarashi possesses a refined, noble, and benevolent personality that has earned him deep respect and love from his subjects. He is consistently polite and soft-spoken, referring to himself with the formal watashi, and he greatly dislikes barbarism and unnecessary violence. Despite being the strongest warrior in his kingdom, he strongly prefers diplomacy over aggression, famously offering to lay down his sword and allow the enemy pirate Jack to search Zou peacefully to avoid bloodshed. However, this gentle demeanor belies an incredibly strong will and unwavering loyalty. He endured horrific torture and the loss of his leg without ever revealing the presence of his comrade Raizo, whom he was protecting on the island. He shares the canine Mink trait of finding the skeletal musician Brook appetizing due to his bone body but will politely wait for him to recover.

His most significant and complex relationship is with his fellow ruler, Nekomamushi, the feline Master of the Night. Originally, the two were the best of friends and shared a youthful curiosity that led them to stow away on pirate ships to see the world. This changed after the execution of their lord, Kozuki Oden, twenty years prior to the main story. Blaming each other and themselves for their failure to save him, their friendship curdled into a bitter, decades-long rivalry so intense that they split the rule of Zou into day and night, from 6 AM to 6 PM and 6 PM to 6 AM respectively, to avoid ever seeing one another. Despite this enmity, they share a profound mutual respect and an unbreakable bond of loyalty to the Kozuki family, and they eventually reconcile during the battle for Wano.

Inuarashi is a former retainer of the powerful daimyo Kozuki Oden and a proud member of the Nine Red Scabbards. His backstory is deeply intertwined with Wano Country, having traveled there as a child after being shipwrecked. He and Nekomamushi were initially feared as talking animals until Oden rescued them and took them in as retainers. So deep was their loyalty that they followed Oden on his legendary voyages, first with the Whitebeard Pirates and later with the Roger Pirates, serving as attendants and witnessing the vastness of the world before returning to Wano after Oden’s wife fell ill.

In the present storyline, Inuarashi plays a pivotal role as a key ally to the Straw Hat Pirates. After his kingdom is decimated by an attack from Kaido's subordinate Jack, he is saved by the Straw Hats. In gratitude, and because he sees the same qualities in Monkey D. Luffy that he saw in Gol D. Roger, he reveals the location of one of the Road Poneglyphs, a crucial item for finding the legendary treasure One Piece. He later joins the raid on Onigashima to avenge his fallen lord. In this final battle, he puts aside his grudge with Nekomamushi, and as the full moon emerges, he transforms into his powerful Sulong form, which gives him a wolf-like appearance. In this state, he finally settles the score with Jack, using a powerful technique known as Oden One Sword Style: Inu Spire to defeat the calamity. Following the war, having fulfilled his life's purpose, he steps down as the Duke of Zou, ceding the throne to his protégé Carrot, and chooses to remain in Wano to protect the new shogun, Momonosuke, alongside his reconciled partner, Nekomamushi.

As a Mink, Inuarashi possesses several notable abilities. He can generate and channel electricity through his body and weapons, a technique known as Electro. He is a master swordsman capable of powerful techniques like the "Canine Scourge," a high-power thrust with his prosthetic leg sword. He is also a proficient user of Haki, specifically the Busoshoku (Armament) and Kenbunshoku (Observation) types. His most formidable power, however, is the Sulong form, which can only be activated by looking at a full moon, dramatically enhancing all of his physical stats, speed, and the power of his Electro abilities, though it is difficult to control without extensive training.
