Description
Galdino, better known by his Baroque Works code name Mr. 3, is a character from the One Piece series. He first appears as a primary antagonist in the Little Garden arc and later becomes a supporting figure during the Summit War of Marineford. Galdino is originally from the South Blue and is of Japanese nationality within the fictional context of the story. He stands at 179 centimeters tall and has a distinct physical appearance, most notably his hairstyle which is shaved and tied into the shape of the number three. He typically wears glasses and has thick lips. During his time in Baroque Works, he wore a sleeveless vest with vertical blue and white stripes, a pink bow tie, cream-colored pants, and white and blue sneakers. The number three is subtly integrated into his outfit and is most prominently displayed in his hair. After being imprisoned in Impel Down, his appearance becomes more disheveled; he wears the standard striped prisoner uniform, his hair becomes unkempt, his right glasses lens is cracked, and he grows a beard. Following his escape and the war, he trims his hair back to its original style but retains his beard and adopts a new outfit, such as an orange button-down shirt and brown pants.

Galdino is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit user who consumed the Doru Doru no Mi, also known as the Wax-Wax Fruit. This power allows him to produce massive quantities of candle wax from his body and manipulate it at will. Once the wax hardens, it becomes as strong as steel. He is also able to generate a small flame on top of his head, which is used to melt and shape his wax creations. Galdino is an incredibly creative and versatile user of this power. He can create wax constructs of all shapes and sizes, from simple tools like swords and harpoons to complex structures like a spinning wax cake meant to encase victims. He is also able to create exact copies of keys, including those for Seastone handcuffs, a skill that proves vital during the Impel Down escape. For defense, he can create a Candle Wall strong enough to block powerful attacks, and for personal combat, he can envelop himself in a large wax suit of armor called Candle Champion, which gives him enhanced physical strength. He is also skilled in infiltration and trickery, able to create lifelike wax clones of himself to confuse opponents. However, the power does have a critical weakness: fire and extreme heat will easily melt his wax, rendering his abilities nearly useless.

As a person, Galdino initially presents as highly narcissistic and self-absorbed, viewing himself as a master strategist and a great artist who creates "living statues" of his victims. He is cunning, sadistic, and prefers to use underhanded tactics and traps to defeat his enemies rather than engaging in direct combat. His personal philosophy is to use schemes to commit great crimes. At his core, he is a coward who shows genuine fear when his life is directly threatened, and his physical combat prowess is relatively low compared to other agents in his organization. He has a distinctive laugh that sounds like "Mwahahahahahahahaha" and speaks with a verbal tic. Despite these less admirable traits, Galdino undergoes a significant character transformation during his time in Impel Down. While he remains opportunistic and somewhat fearful, he develops a sense of honor and courage. He risks his life to block a torrent of deadly poison from the prison warden, Magellan, simply to repay a debt to Monkey D. Luffy. He also admits that he might start seeing Luffy as a friend. The self-sacrifice of his fellow officer agent, Mr. 2 Bon Kurei, deeply affects him, motivating him to volunteer for a dangerous mission to free Portgas D. Ace at Marineford out of a desire for revenge and to honor his fallen comrade's final will.

Galdino's role as a villain begins on the island of Little Garden, where he and his partner, Miss Goldenweek, are tasked with eliminating the Straw Hat Pirates. He devises a plan to simultaneously capture the pirate crew and claim the bounties of the two giant warriors, Dorry and Brogy. He successfully immobilizes Brogy and traps several of Luffy's crewmates inside his Giant Candle Service Set, intending to turn them into wax statues. However, his elaborate scheme is ultimately foiled by the determination of Luffy and Usopp, and he is defeated in a final confrontation. After this failure, he travels to Alabasta to plead for another chance from his superior, the organization's president, Mr. 0 (Crocodile). In response, Crocodile severely dehydrates him and throws him into a pit of Bananawani, giant crocodiles. Galdino survives by encasing himself in a protective wax ball. When he emerges, he finds Sanji looking for a key to free Luffy and others from a cage. To get revenge for his defeat, he spitefully throws the key away, but Sanji beats him until he agrees to use his Devil Fruit powers to create a new key. Following the fall of Baroque Works, Galdino is captured by the Marines and imprisoned in the underwater prison Impel Down, where he is held on Level 2, the Beast Hell.

Galdino returns to the story during the Impel Down arc. When Luffy breaks into the prison to rescue Ace, Galdino recognizes an opportunity to escape. He teams up with Buggy the Clown, and together they orchestrate a riot on Level 2. During their journey through the prison, Galdino's wax powers prove invaluable for creating keys, protective walls, and even a mobile shelter to survive the extreme cold of Level 5. At Level 4, when Magellan corners the escaping prisoners, Galdino bravely uses a massive Candle Wall to shield others from the warden's poison, declaring he will not be indebted to Luffy. He then creates wax armor for Luffy's hands and feet, allowing the pirate to land solid blows on Magellan until the warden unleashes his ultimate, inescapable Venom Demon form.

Following the escape from Impel Down, Galdino joins Luffy, Buggy, and the other fugitives on a hijacked Marine ship, which inadvertently takes them to the Battle of Marineford. During the war, Galdino sneaks behind enemy lines, knocks out one of Ace's executioners, and uses his wax to create a disguise as the executioner himself. When Admiral Sengoku orders the immediate execution of both Ace and Luffy, Galdino, revealed to be on the platform, uses his power to create a key from wax, unlocking Ace's Seastone handcuffs moments before the fatal blow can be struck. He states his reason for this heroic act: to avenge the sacrifice of his comrade, Mr. 2 Bon Kurei. After the war, Galdino aligns himself with Buggy, becomes an executive of the mercenary organization "Buggy's Delivery," and later a member of the Cross Guild. He has a bounty of 24,000,000 berries on his head. His key relationships in the story are with his former partner Miss Goldenweek, his former and current boss Crocodile, his fellow escapee Buggy, and Monkey D. Luffy, with whom he forms an unlikely and grudging bond. Galdino's development from a sadistic, cowardly schemer into a somewhat more courageous character who is capable of self-sacrifice and loyalty is one of his most notable traits.
