Description
Capone Gang Bege is a mafia don turned pirate who serves as the captain of the Fire Tank Pirates. He hails from the West Blue, where he was originally one of the heads of the Five Families of the West, a powerful group of organized crime syndicates. Eventually setting sail as a pirate, he became one of the twelve notorious individuals known as the Worst Generation who garnered significant bounties prior to the Summit War of Marineford. Sometime after the war, his crew became subordinates of the Big Mom Pirates, one of the Four Emperors, where he married Charlotte Chiffon, Big Mom's twenty-second daughter, and had a son named Capone Pez. Bege's bounty increased from 138,000,000 to 300,000,000 Berry during this period.
In terms of personality, Bege is a figure of stark contrasts. He presents himself as a refined gentleman of great sophistication, dressing in fine pinstriped suits and maintaining a reserved, calm demeanor. He is deeply appalled by poor table manners, rudeness, and uncleanliness, going so far as to insist that enemies bathe and change into new clothes before he will speak with them. He enjoys fine dining and has an aesthetic appreciation for paintings. Despite this cultured surface, Bege is exceptionally sadistic, impatient, and ill-tempered. He has no qualms about injuring others, including his own crew members, for even minor provocations. His core motivation is not a simple desire for power but rather the enjoyment of chaos; he aims to destabilize powerful factions and watch the resulting struggle for dominance as entertainment. He has a habit of directly eliminating the leaders of opposing groups while leaving their subordinates alive, simply to trigger violent infighting. He is known for his pragmatic and cunning nature, readily employing tactics such as taking hostages, bluffing, or shooting enemies in the back. While he considers outward empathy a weakness unworthy of pirates, Bege reveals a devoted and loving side in his family life. He cares deeply for his wife Chiffon and their son Pez, showing no embarrassment in making silly faces to amuse the child. He also demonstrates a fierce loyalty to his crew, willing to risk his own life against a Yonko to protect them.
Bege's role in the story becomes prominent during the Whole Cake Island Arc. Having infiltrated the Big Mom Pirates as a subordinate, Bege secretly plotted to assassinate Big Mom. He manipulated events to place himself in charge of security for the wedding between Sanji of the Straw Hat Pirates and Charlotte Pudding. To increase his chances of success, he formed a temporary alliance with Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, who had arrived on Whole Cake Island to rescue Sanji. Despite initial antagonism, particularly over Bege's attempt to kill their ally Pekoms, the alliance moved forward with a plan to destroy a specific photo of Big Mom's mentor, Mother Carmel, which would leave the Emperor emotionally vulnerable to an assassination attempt. When the plan ultimately failed, Bege transformed into his ultimate fortress form, Big Father, to protect his family and allies, allowing them to escape Totto Land. Following this, Bege, his family, and his crew went on a journey to find Chiffon's estranged twin sister, Lola.
Bege's key relationships highlight his duality. His marriage to Charlotte Chiffon appears genuinely happy, and Chiffon fully supports his plot against her mother, declaring Bege and Pez her only true family. His relationship with his crew is complex; his men address him as "Father" and follow him loyally, while Bege can be ruthless towards disobedience but also holds genuine gratitude and protectiveness for them. His relationship with the Straw Hat Pirates begins with mutual suspicion but evolves into a grudging respect and successful, if temporary, cooperation. He shows no loyalty to his former master Big Mom, viewing his subservience merely as a strategic cover for his assassination plot.
Throughout his development, Bege is shown to be a master strategist who prefers tactical wit over direct brute force. While his bloodthirsty nature remains, his role as a father and husband significantly humanizes him, softening his cruel tendencies and giving him a personal stake beyond the chaos he enjoys. He is a fearless opportunist, not hesitating to fight Admirals or Emperors when necessary, but his primary strength lies in his cunning and his unique Devil Fruit.
Bege's notable abilities stem from consuming the Shiro Shiro no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform his body into a living fortress. His interior is a vast, dimensionally-shifted castle where he can store a massive army, weaponry, and even vehicles. People and objects inside him shrink to a tiny size, allowing him to deploy a crew from thin air. His body can manifest cannons and tank treads at will, such as with his Castle Tank technique for high-speed land travel. His most powerful transformation is called Big Father, in which he becomes an enormous, heavily-armed fortress golem, capable of withstanding multiple direct attacks from a Yonko like Big Mom. This ability makes him both a mobile stronghold and a devastating artillery platform.
