Description
Mohji is a pirate who serves as the first mate of the Buggy Pirates, commonly known by the epithet the Beast Tamer. He operates alongside his pet lion, Richie, whom he relies on heavily in battle. Mohji is characterized by his pompous and somewhat foolish demeanor, often boasting about his ability to control any animal, though he has only demonstrated this effectively with Richie. His motivations are primarily tied to his loyalty to Captain Buggy and his desire to assert his own status within the crew, though his ambitions are often undercut by his own limitations and comedic circumstances.
In the story, Mohji first appears during the Orange Town arc, where Buggy sends him to capture Roronoa Zoro. He clashes with Monkey D. Luffy after burning down a pet-food shop belonging to a deceased man and his dog, an act that leads to his defeat. Following Buggy's initial downfall, Mohji engages in a prolonged leadership dispute with Cabaji, another senior crew member, which ends inconclusively when a sleepwalking Richie knocks both of them unconscious. Later, during the Loguetown arc, Mohji is tasked with burning the Straw Hats' ship, the Going Merry, but fails when rain extinguishes his efforts.
