TV-Series
Description
Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro is a prominent character in the One Piece series, known for being one of the Five Elders. As a member of this governing body, he holds the title Warrior God of Finance and is one of the highest-ranking authority figures within the World Government, answering only to the mysterious ruler Imu. He is also a high-ranking Celestial Dragon, or World Noble, which places him above the vast majority of the world's population in terms of social standing and political power.

Nusjuro possesses a distinctive and memorable appearance that sets him apart from his colleagues on the Five Elders. Unlike the others who typically wear formal suits, he is almost always seen in a loose, white keikogi secured with a golden obi, an outfit reminiscent of a traditional samurai. His footwear consists of beige geta sandals. He is an extremely tall, elderly man with pale, grayish skin and a bald head and face, lacking the mustaches or beards sported by the other Elders. His face is wrinkled and features a prominent, aquiline nose, thin eyebrows, and a pair of round, metal-framed Windsor-style eyeglasses. A key accessory is a long katana, which he is often seen carrying in his hand rather than at his waist.

Nusjuro's personality is defined by a deep and meticulous concern for the world's balance, which is maintained by the Three Great Powers. He is a staunch traditionalist who views even the loss of a single Warlord of the Sea as a significant issue and was extremely concerned when three of the positions became vacant after the Summit War of Marineford. He is pragmatic and was the first among the Elders to suggest that a "cleansing" might be necessary to restore order after the chaos that followed that war. He harbors a strong distrust and dislike for those who carry the Will of D., viewing them as a fundamental danger and expressing discomfort that their name has become widely known. He has little tolerance for insubordination from those of lower rank, including high-ranking officers like Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, and expects absolute deference to the authority of the World Government. He also greatly values secrecy, particularly regarding the Void Century, and will order the immediate elimination of anyone discovered researching it. Nusjuro also appears to have some familiarity with ancient and isolated locations such as Zunesha, Zou, and the country of Wano.

As one of the Five Elders, Nusjuro's role in the story is that of a primary antagonist, particularly in the series' final saga. He is part of the supreme governing council that directs the Marines, Cipher Pol, and all other agencies of the World Government. He has the authority to order a Buster Call and manipulate the global flow of information to suppress any facts that might damage the government's image. In the Egghead Arc, his role became more direct when he and the other Elders personally traveled to the island to prevent Dr. Vegapunk from revealing the truth about the world. Once there, he took an active role in combat, demonstrating his immense personal power.

In terms of key relationships, Nusjrow's primary allegiance is to Imu, the secret sovereign of the world, for whom he and the other Elders carry out their most important tasks. He works closely alongside his four fellow Elders, Jaygarcia Saturn, Marcus Mars, Topman Warcury, and Shepherd Ju Peter, as a united front in governing and defending the World Government. While their individual interpersonal dynamics are not deeply explored, they operate as a collective with shared goals and a mutual respect for the hierarchy that places them at the top. Below him, he commands figures like the Fleet Admiral and the various admirals, though he holds them in a lower regard.

Regarding his development, Nusjuro, like the other Elders, has been repeatedly mentioned and shown in the background of major events for much of the series, but only recently has he become an active combatant and a central figure in the unfolding story. The character's early appearances established him as a shadowy, untouchable political figure. However, the final saga has shown him shed that passive role to become a direct physical threat to the protagonists, revealing the true extent of his powers.

Nusjuro is an extraordinarily powerful individual, possessing a variety of formidable abilities. As a member of the Five Elders, he has the highest authority over the Seraphim, allowing him to command them in person without even Dr. Vegapunk being able to override his orders. He is also an immensely skilled swordsman, wielding one of the twelve supreme-grade blades, the Shodai Kitetsu. He has demonstrated the ability to use two types of Haki: Busoshoku, which he can use to harden his blade, and Kenbunshoku, using it to detect all forms of life in a combat zone. He is also proficient enough in Rokushiki to use Geppo to launch himself into the air.

He has an unnamed Devil Fruit of the Zoan type that allows him to transform into a Bakotsu, a yokai or mythical creature that takes the form of a skeletal horse. In his hybrid form, which resembles a skeletal centaur, he gains incredible speed, allowing him to gallop at breakneck pace to attack foes. His primary attack in this form involves using his katana to deliver freezing slashes; he has shown the ability to incapacitate the powerful Pacifista cyborgs by cutting and partially freezing their internal mechanisms without causing external damage. Like his fellow Elders, his transformation is accompanied by the dark, smoky clouds characteristic of an awakened Zoan. Furthermore, Nusjrow has demonstrated a mysterious form of telepathy, allowing him to communicate with the other Elders across vast distances. He also possesses an unknown form of immortality, as he was able to instantly regenerate after being caught in the blast of a self-destruct bomb intended to kill him. He can also travel through a magical circle called the Abyss to reach his destination nearly instantly.
