OVA
Description
Lee Ling Ling is a supporting character from the manga and OVA series 3x3 Eyes. She is a Chinese woman in her late twenties with black hair and brown eyes, standing around five feet six inches tall. She grew up on the streets of Hong Kong, a difficult childhood that taught her self-reliance, the value of true friendship, and a practical understanding of money. She keeps her past largely to herself, even from those closest to her.

Professionally, Ling Ling works as the assistant editor of Yougekisha, an occult-themed magazine publishing company based in Hong Kong. When the chief editor, Chen Aguri, disappears without explanation, Ling Ling effectively takes over editorial duties. Initially, she is deeply skeptical of the supernatural and openly dismissive of ghosts, demons, and other paranormal phenomena. She treats the magazine as a business first, constructing sensational stories and doctoring photographs to sell issues—covering topics such as UFOs, Elvis sightings, and monster possessions—without any belief in their reality. Her guiding principle at this stage is a straightforward appreciation for money over belief.

Ling Ling’s worldview shifts when she accepts a well-paid exorcism job at the home of Mrs. Huang Song Lii. This assignment brings her into direct contact with Yakumo Fujii, an immortal boy, and Pai, a powerful three-eyed being. The experience forces her to confront the reality of demons and supernatural threats. Rather than clinging to her old disbelief, she adapts quickly and practically. She begins to take the existence of monsters seriously and, seeing a new business opportunity, officially steers Yougekisha into the exorcism trade. The magazine continues to publish fabricated stories, but now also includes genuine articles about demons and real photographs of strange creatures, which boost sales considerably. Ling Ling cultivates her connection with Yakumo as a source for firsthand stories about supernatural incidents in Tokyo.

In terms of personality, Ling Ling is pragmatic, resourceful, and motivated by financial gain, but she also possesses a strong sense of duty toward her close friends. She has a reporter’s natural curiosity and is not afraid to take risks when the potential payoff is high. She is nearsighted and wears glasses, and she has a noticeable addiction to cigarettes. Her demeanor can come across as snobbish or money-grubbing, yet she demonstrates altruism and genuine care for her companions as the story progresses. She is confident and can be intimidating, but she also has a kind heart beneath her tough exterior.

Ling Ling is a trained martial artist, specializing in Wing Chun Kung Fu. She is proficient in hand-to-hand combat, using techniques such as blocks, joint locks, kicks, leg sweeps, and punches. She can also handle blades and staffs, as well as small firearms. Beyond her combat skills, she is resourceful in other practical areas: she knows lockpicking, basic paramedicine, and disguise, and she is fluent in Cantonese, English, and Japanese. Her knowledge of occultism, though initially superficial, grows substantially through her experiences. She also maintains contacts within the publishing world and with individuals like Song Lii Huang.

Throughout the story, Ling Ling undergoes notable development. She starts as a cynical gag character who fabricates paranormal stories for profit and evolves into an active participant in genuine supernatural events. She embraces her new role as an exorcist and uses her position at the magazine to document and profit from real monster-hunting, all while proving herself a loyal and capable ally to Yakumo, Pai, and the others. Her journey is one of moving from disbelief and self-interest to belief and willingness to help others, all while retaining her practical, money-minded nature.
