Description
Mei-Xing Long is introduced as the younger sister of Steve Long, a colleague of the main protagonists. She is established as a superb martial artist with considerable physical prowess. Her entry into the central conflict is dramatic and personal: she witnesses the destruction of her brother's apartment in an explosion. While searching through the rubble, she discovers a fragment of the Statue of Humanity, a key artifact in the story, which sets her on a path to find both her missing brother and those responsible for the attack. This quest leads her to encounter the main characters, Pai and Yakumo Fujii, and her first interaction with Yakumo is notably aggressive, as she immediately attacks him.
Physically, Mei-Xing is depicted as a teenage girl with black hair cut to neck-length and black eyes. Her personality is driven by a strong sense of loyalty and protectiveness towards her family, which is the primary catalyst for her actions. As the narrative progresses, a significant aspect of her character becomes her romantic feelings for Yakumo. However, this affection is ultimately unrequited, as it becomes clear that Yakumo's heart belongs only to Pai. Recognizing this reality, Mei-Xing makes the mature decision to step away from the immediate circle and pursue her own path, leaving to study as an exchange student in England.
Despite her departure, Mei-Xing is not permanently removed from the story and reappears later, now older, around the age of eighteen. In this later appearance, she proves herself to be a valuable and capable ally. She comes to the aid of Yakumo when he is trying to rescue Pai from a powerful new enemy, a Hyoma priestess named Gupta. Together, they work to save their friends, demonstrating that her martial arts skills have not diminished and that she remains a courageous and dependable figure within the world of the story. Her role is thus that of a secondary protagonist whose journey moves from a revenge-driven seeker to a member of a found family, and finally to an independent young woman who, while nursing an unreturned love, chooses her own growth and later returns as a strong supporter in a time of crisis.
