Description
Li Ling-Ling is a young Chinese woman from Hong Kong who works as the assistant editor of Yougekisha, an occult magazine publishing company. She later becomes the de facto editor after the chief editor's disappearance. She has black hair, brown eyes, and is around twenty-eight years old, standing about five feet six inches tall. Her past is largely unknown, even to her closest friends, but she grew up on the dangerous streets of Hong Kong, which taught her the value of money, true friends, and martial arts. She is a skilled practitioner of Wing Chun Kung Fu and is also proficient with various weapons, small arms, and even helicopters. She is nearsighted and wears glasses, and she has a habit of smoking cigarettes.
In terms of personality, Ling-Ling is pragmatic, money-driven, and has a reporter's curiosity. Initially, she is deeply skeptical of the supernatural and treats the occult stories in her magazine as purely fabricated entertainment, complete with doctored photos. She openly admits to Yakumo that she does not believe in monsters or demons but believes in money. However, her worldview shifts after she accepts a well-paying exorcism job at the Huang estate, where she encounters real demonic activity alongside Yakumo and Pai. This experience forces her to reevaluate her beliefs. Being practical, she quickly adapts to the existence of the supernatural and sees it as a new opportunity to make money. She begins incorporating real exorcism cases into the magazine, boosting its sales.
Ling-Ling's motivations are largely financial, but she also develops a sense of duty toward her friends. She serves as a supporting character in the story, providing the main duo with information, logistical support, and occasional combat assistance. Her key relationships are with Yakumo Fujii and Pai, whom she initially meets as clients but later becomes a reliable ally. She also has a connection to the missing chief editor Chen Aguri. Over the course of the narrative, Ling-Ling undergoes notable development from a skeptical, profit-oriented journalist to someone who accepts the reality of the occult and becomes more altruistic, though she never entirely sheds her money-minded nature. Her notable abilities extend beyond martial arts to include writing, editing, occult knowledge, lockpicking, disguise, and paramedic skills, as well as fluency in Cantonese, English, and Japanese.
