Description
Priss, whose full name is Priscilla S. Asagiri, is a central character in the Bubblegum Crisis anime franchise and one of the four members of the vigilante group known as the Knight Sabers. She is introduced as a nineteen-year-old woman living in the sprawling future city of MegaTokyo, where she leads a double life as a hard-edged rock musician and a frontline fighter against rogue robots called boomers.

Her background is marked by early loss. She was orphaned during the Second Great Kantō Earthquake of 2025 and spent a gloomy, isolated childhood in an orphanage with no one to rely on. As a teenager, she drifted into the darker side of MegaTokyo, joined a biker gang, and worked as a small-time singer at live houses and clubs. The defining tragedy of her life came when the leader of her motorcycle gang, the man who had won her heart, was assassinated after discovering a secret belonging to a powerful organization. When the AD Police ruled his death an accident, Priss developed a deep grudge against law enforcement and set out to hunt down the killers herself with a gun. It was during this quest for revenge that she caught the attention of Sylia Stingray, who recruited her into the Knight Sabers and gave her a new purpose.

In personality, Priss is moody, defiant, and fiercely independent. She is generally antisocial and anti-authoritarian, quick to distrust institutions and figures of authority, and prone to voicing her frustrations with insults and sharp language. She keeps few people close, but she cares deeply about those she considers friends. Beneath her rebellious and sometimes cold exterior is a good heart, a strong sense of justice, and a dry sense of humor, all of which allow her to function within Sylia's disciplined and demanding operation. She is also impulsive and hot-blooded, often acting on emotion and instinct rather than careful planning.

Her motivations are rooted in her losses and her anger at the systems that failed her. She fights boomers with ferocious abandon and often with little concern for her own safety, driven both by a desire for justice and by a personal need to strike back at the forces that took everything from her. Her hatred of the AD Police is tempered over time, particularly through her complicated relationship with Leon McNichol, an AD Police officer who serves as both her rival and her eventual love interest. Their bond is a love-hate one, marked by constant bickering, mutual respect, and a growing sense of trust.

Within the Knight Sabers, Priss holds the role of the group's strongest fighter and heavy assault specialist. She essentially serves as the hammer of the team, in contrast to Sylia's leadership and genius, Nene's technical wizardry, and Linna's sleek athletic precision. Her combat style is direct and aggressive, making her a formidable opponent in any fight. In battle she wears a dark blue Hard Suit that carries a railgun in the right hand and a laser gun in the original series, along with her signature knuckle bombers, explosive charges fitted into the suit's hands. In later installments, her Hard Suit can combine with her Motoslave, a motorcycle that transforms into an automated mecha or an exosuit, greatly increasing her power against advanced boomers. In the Bubblegum Crash continuation, her suit becomes a modular core system to which various heavy weapons can be attached. Her natural athleticism and quick reflexes further enhance her combat abilities, and she is also a skilled motorcyclist who uses her bike both in civilian life and in battle.

Priss is also defined by her career as a singer. She is the lead vocalist of a rock band named Priss and the Replicants, and her music is an outlet for the emotions she has trouble expressing otherwise. Her life straddles the worlds of underground rock performance, street-level biker culture, and covert urban warfare, and all three identities shape who she is.

The character experiences significant emotional development over the course of her story. One of the more painful episodes involves her friendship with Sylvie, a biker girl who turns out to be a runaway sexaroid, a type of synthetic being. Priss is forced to confront and ultimately kill Sylvie, an experience that deepens her understanding of the boomer threat and the moral complexities of the world she lives in. Through such experiences, she gradually moves from a purely revenge-driven loner to a more dependable and emotionally open member of the Knight Sabers, though she never loses her rough edge. In the alternate retelling found in Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, she is portrayed as a Japanese-American vocalist for an underground rock band who lives in a trailer truck in the slums of Tokyo, and she retains her defining traits as a distrustful loner and the strongest member of the team, still specializing in heavy assault. Across all versions of the story, Priss remains a passionate, stubborn, and deeply human fighter whose anger and pain are matched by loyalty, courage, and a fierce will to protect those she cares about.
