Description
Jasmine Flamesworth is a character from the anime The Beginning After The End, known for her role as a skilled adventurer and mentor. She is a member of the renowned adventurer party called the Twin Horns and is a descendant of the noble Flamesworth House, a family celebrated for producing powerful fire mages who were major contributors to the war against the Elves.
However, Jasmine’s personal history is defined by her divergence from this family legacy. She awakened her mana core at an earlier age than all of her siblings, which led her family to have extremely high expectations for her. When she underwent the tests to determine her elemental affinity, it was discovered that she had no aptitude for the fire attribute that was her family’s trademark. Instead, she was born with an affinity for wind magic. This revelation caused her family to shun her, treating her as a lesser member of the household. The rejection and cold treatment she endured ultimately drove Jasmine to run away from her home at a young age, seeking to escape her family’s crushing expectations and forge her own path.
In terms of personality, Jasmine presents a distinctly stoic and aloof exterior. She is naturally quiet and introverted, often keeping to herself and appearing shy or distant around strangers. Despite this outward coldness, she is deeply caring and warm-hearted towards the people she grows close to. Beneath her reserved demeanor lies a very observant and fast-learning individual. Her perceptiveness and ability to quickly master new techniques are demonstrated when she becomes the first among the Twin Horns to learn a complex agility step after receiving very little instruction.
Jasmine’s primary motivation stems from her painful family history. She is driven by a desire for self-acceptance and to prove her worth on her own terms, independent of her noble lineage. Having been rejected for not conforming to her family's expectations of a fire mage, she finds purpose and a new sense of belonging as an adventurer. The Twin Horns party becomes the closest thing to a family she has ever known, providing her with the acceptance and camaraderie she was denied in her birth home.
Her role in the story is significant, particularly as a mentor to the protagonist, Arthur Leywin. After a tragic incident where Arthur is believed to have died, the Twin Horns are reunited with him years later. When the party is asked to choose a chaperone and supervisor for Arthur during his time as an adventurer, Jasmine volunteers for the role. She becomes Arthur's direct mentor, training him in combat and helping him hone his swordsmanship and mana control. Their relationship is built on mutual respect and honesty, and she is one of the first people to learn the secret of Arthur’s bond, Sylvie, who is a dragon.
Key relationships define much of Jasmine’s character arc. Her relationship with her biological family is fraught with disappointment and abuse, especially with her father, Trodius Flamesworth, who went from pushing her relentlessly to rejecting her entirely when she did not manifest fire magic. She does share a more complex bond with her oldest sister, Senyir, who accepted Jasmine’s wind affinity and secretly helped her escape, giving her the two daggers that Jasmine continues to carry. Her relationship with the Twin Horns, including members like Adam Krensh who acts as an older brother figure, represents her found family. Her bond with Arthur Leywin is central to her development; it transitions from initial distance to deep trust, and she becomes one of his most reliable allies and a close friend. Their dynamic is often described as sibling-like, with deep mutual respect and care rather than any romantic inclination.
Over the course of the story, Jasmine undergoes notable development. She evolves from a withdrawn young woman haunted by her family’s rejection into a more confident and expressive individual. Her time with Arthur and the Twin Horns helps her heal from past wounds, allowing her to laugh and engage with others more openly. She also grows significantly in power, progressing from a B-Class adventurer to achieving AA-Class status and breaking through to the light-yellow stage of her mana core. Her skills as a mentor also develop as she learns to teach and guide Arthur, who constantly pushes the boundaries of conventional training.
Jasmine’s notable abilities are centered on her wind attribute and her incredible speed. She specializes in dual-wielding long daggers, which she keeps at the back of her waist, and also carries a smaller hidden dagger. As an augmenter, she uses her mana to enhance her physical body, with her fighting style relying on swift, precise strikes to overwhelm opponents before they can react. Her wind magic further complements this speed-based approach. Her quick learning ability is also a notable skill, as seen when she masters advanced movement techniques in a fraction of the time it takes her peers.
